Lfi

I quite like LFI. It seems to be an honest publication, which is questionable wrt. most of what I see elsewhere. They do not have to satisfy an advertiser by saying that everything is outstanding and "its all relative". They do not seem to be afraid to tell the truth, with a little bias...

Sometimes I like the pictures - sometimes I don't. No surprises there.

One thing I questioned in the most recent issue. There was an "Advertorial" hailing the virtues of Kodak's new T-Max 400 film. The text sounded like a very positive review, but I am assuming it was paid for by Kodak. Great company, great products - I know because they told me so themselves. They even had the nerve to say that if Ansel Adams were still alive he would be selling the film to his buddies.

I have been subscribing to the magazine since 1975 as a matter of routine. However, this thread has made me re-evaluate continuing. It's a nice magazine with good production values, but I rarely refer back to one; and as others have noted, this forum and other on-line sources are now better for information, news and reviews.

Hi Everyone,

I too have been a subscriber to LFI for many years. I enjoy the magazine thorougly. I read every article.

From the portfolios I've learned what subjects and styles of photography I enjoy seeing or maybe should like to try out myself.

From the technical articles I've been able to select subsequent purchases based on performance and feature reviews. For example, I've decided not to buy the R9/DMR or the M8 but to wait for their successors.

All the best,

David

I have subscribed to LFI for some years now. I agree with the other posts-- the magazine has had its ups and downs as far as content quality, and for awhile now, things have looking up. LFI has been worth the subscription price. I also agree that the LHSA journal has more "meat" and that we can be up to date on anything Leica through the internet. But...there is just something cool about a whole magazine dedicated to our photographic passion of choice!

Best regards from Texas,

Steven Beckham

The arrival of LFI is a useful stimulus to tackle some new subjects in the 'Leica' way. Over the years my interest has waxed and waned, but on balance, I can justify the subscription.

I just wish the editor would publish more 'first person' pieces; they have more of a ring of truth about them. Instead, non-Leica journalists seem to conduct interviews not particularly very effectively.
