I suggest you look for ‘mathphotographer’ videos on YouTube.  He has tutorials on the entire menu structure and setup of both Q and SL bodies, along with tips and tricks, and just recently added a video on the Q platform following FW 4.0.

I am seeing some anecdotal reports that upon upgrading the firmware to V4.0, the Godox X3L trigger no longer functions on the Q3 models. Are there any members, reading this, able to offer an opinion please? I have one of these triggers on a back order, and, at £103, I don’t wish to run into problems. Thank you.

Unfortunately it is harder to find the format action in the menu. Is it possible to make a shortcut:

You can add it to the Control Centre in place of one of the existing icons in the bottom two rows. Long press, on the Control Centre, the icon you wish to replace then choose something like "Format Storage” (can't recall exact wording and don't have camera to hand, sorry!) from the list.

A summary of possible (probable) “bugs” in Q3/Q3-43/Q3M Firmware Update 4.0

In my explorations and in reading posts by others, these three “bugs” are noted in FW 4.0.  All of these are ones I can replicate and all have been “reported” to Leica Service (I sent a note about #s 2 and 3) Posted here in part in case Leica Service reads these posts:

1. As mentioned by many, the lack of images taken in portrait mode to be played in portrait mode when reviewed and not in “auto review” .  Apparently from posts by others, this has ben reported to Leica and should be corrected.

2. The camera hangs up when switching profiles.  Now mentioned by a few individuals on this forum topic.  It appears that the issue is switching profiles where one profile has FOTOS set to “off” and the other profile set to one of the “on” FOTOS choices (eco or performance).  I initially noted this when going from a saved profile I was working on back to default (to remind myself what the default setting was).  My saved profiles all have FOTOS off and the Default has FOTOS “on” (performance).

3. Persistent for me (unique to my camera (Q3-43)?), if I save a set of profiles and if any or all of slots 3 through 6 are  “unused” (no profile saved to that slot) and I export the profiles then later import that exported set, any open slot 3 through 6 will reload as a saved slot.  The name of the profile will just be “User #” and the profile that is saved is a copy of the default profile.

Slot 2 seems unaffected (I don’t know about slot 1 as I always had at least one profile saved, any always used slot 1 first).

No intervention I can think of doing has fixed it (resets, battery in/out, various export/import trial combinations).

The workaround is simple, just delete the erroneously saved profiles and they will stay gone until the exported set is again imported.

Of note is that if all 6 profile slots are filled with user saved profiles and these are exported, when imported they will come back as expected, all 6 of the saved user profiles will be reloaded and the “bug” I am mentioning would not be noticed.

Other than these three items I have not found anything else I would call a FW “bug” (there certainly could be others).  There are a number of items that are different than the previous firmware and take a bit of relearning that I would not consider “bugs”.

Right now, using the downloaded Q3 MONO manual has helped with understanding the new firmware as it is written for this version (3.9/4.0).

Overall I like the new setup.  The startup time improvement and some of the focusing improvements seem quite useful.  In retrospect, I might have an easier time waiting for a revised FW update but would have missed out on the several hours of “fun” getting more fully acquainted with my camera! (mild sarcasm).

I upgraded to v4.0.0 of the firmware and now I cannot pair the camera to Leica FOTOS on my phone. The failure message says 'Make sure camera is turned on and connectivity is set to "Performance mode" or "Eco mode" in the Leica FOTOS menu in your camera.' Only the Connectivity option is greyed out - not available to select. Has anyone else seen this, and are there any suggestions for rectifying this?

Thanks,

Ian.

So, to fix the profile switching bug just factory reset the camera and restore the saved profiles from SDcard and the camera will no longer hang when you hit the default profile?

Only if your profiles aren't saved with Fotos off.

What if you create new profiles from scratch with fotos off?  I hardly ever use the iPhone app and don't want to drain the battery. I'm hoping if I reset the camera and set my profiles up as new with photos off it won't hang?

As previously explained, because the Leica default profile has FOTOS on, you'll still get the hang if you change from one of your own "off” profiles to the Leica default profile (or vice versa).

Thanks so the only solution is to wait for a fix if you don't want photos on?

That approach did not work for me.  :(

Took delivery of a brand-new Q3M this weekend. I am a hobbyist who loves B&W, and I arrived at this camera by way of Q2M (loved it), M11M (wanted to shoot rangefinder, loved it but aging eyes made it impractical), and Q3 (B&W conversions just weren't as satisfying as native B&W)... so here I am, back in the Q system.

I updated the firmware to 4.0 before taking a shot. Everything looking great so far, with one baffling issue: the camera will not save content credentials. I activate, enter and confirm them, but as soon as I exit the menu, they are gone. Nothing shows in the menu, and no metadata is written to the image files. I've re-booted, changed batteries, and tried repeatedly, but... nothing. Content credentials are not necessarily critical to my use of the camera, though I would like them in the event that I share, sell or otherwise hand off any of my images.

Any clues for fixing this problem? Can it be fixed?

Profiles:

Never got the prompt to "Save profiles on SD card"

Had them backed up prior just in case, but…

When importing from saved the names are there but NOT the settings.

Bah, humbug! (seasonal disaffection).

UPDATE (5 minutes later):

It seems the profiles are, in fact, there and intact EXCEPT for applied Looks. A relatively simply fix but alarming nonetheless.

And likely will not work.

There may be other items in saved profiles that cause the camera to "hang" but the repeatable "hang up" resulting in the "Circles from Hell" will occur when of switching from a saved profile with FOTOS turned "off" to the default profile (which, by default, has FOTOS turned "on"), and for me, switching from any saved profile that also had FOTOS turned "on" to one where FOTOS was saved as "off" will "hang" the camera.  Exporting/Importing profiles has no effect on this that I can see.

(In my previous post I also mentioned another, different issue with Exporting/Importing profiles but it was not the camera "hang up, Circles from Hell" issue).

Also FWIW, once a camera reset was done after the initial change to FW 4.0, I have not found that any additional resets changed any of the aforementioned concerns.

The profiles should still be there after the update to 4.0.0. But you still have to fix them so that they anticipate all new features.
