After e break of 5 years I restarted enjoying the hobby, but, as usual, I am tempted to upgrade the gear I am using.

Today I am using a M9 and a M240 and I am still happy with the results.

I shoot different genres, but I enjoy very much taking action photos of people using zone focussing (see below an example of my dog)

I appreciate the M11 because:

  • the higher resolution allows more cropping (often necessary)
  • better ISO sensitivity allows faster shutter speeds

The M11 would be an ideal camera on paper, but I discovered that it uses a new metering system that changes the way the shutter works: if I understand it correctly, when you press the release button: 1. Shutter closes 2. Shutter opens 3. Sensors reads image.

This process introduces a delay between the moment you press the release button and the moment the sensors reads the image in comparison to the older M models.

Because of this I am concerned with is the responsiveness of the M11-P.

What is your experience? Does the longer shutter lag make a difference?

Best

When the M11 came out, many people had the same question.

Comparing measurements with older cameras like the M10, the results were that there is no perceptual difference.

There is no difference in the M11 and M11-P

The only factor to keep in mind is that it is best to shoot at a faster shutter speed on the M11, with the different hardware, 60MP sensor, and record motion with more details. I set my camera to a minimum of 1/250 in auto mode, and I have been very happy with the results.

As far as shutter speeds are concerned, 1/(2f)s does it for me at 60mp. Subjectively though, my M11 feels less responsive than my M240 in RF mode but more responsive in LV mode, don't ask me why.
