Wetzlar, 6th of November 2025 – Leica Camera AG is pleased to announce the launch of the Leica SL3 Reporter, a new addition to the company’s Reporter design series. This particularly robust version of the Leica SL3 represents the latest in a long line of specially developed Leica cameras. The Leica SL3 Reporter is equipped with features that have been specifically designed for the harsh conditions of reportage and press photography, which enables maximum precision even under the most adverse shooting conditions. The result combines maximum functionality and reliability with a unique camera design that is both understated and striking.

The Leica SL3 Reporter features a particularly scratch-resistant dark green finish and an aramid fabric cover, which provide additional protection for the robust camera body against abrasion and environmental influences. Furthermore, the special trim, with its unique texture, also offers significantly improved grip, thus ensuring enhanced stability when taking photographs and filming. Over time, the trim develops a unique patina that reflects the traces of its photographic journey and the character of a true reportage camera. The distinctive design is characterised by a combination of dark green paintwork with black control elements, and the absence of the red Leica logo, which serves to emphasise the SL3 Reporter’s suitability for challenging working environments.

I would like a SL3-P version. sapphire screen, no leica script at the front or red dot. just Leica script on back top right rim. Strap lugs, shoot button and change lens button stealth black.

Mine just arrived and first impressions are stellar. It feels just the right kind of chunky. A beautiful piece of kit and very happy I waited for this edition. Have the SL APO 35, 24-90 and 90-280 and feel more than covered. Biggest shock for me was how tiny the 35mm feels. At first I thought they’d sent me the smaller, cheaper summicron by mistake. I’m thrilled. Finding joy wherever it can be found these days…

It’s a bit peculiar to see a reporter version show up 18 months after the initial release of the SL3.

It makes me wonder whether:

1. The SL3 is selling very poorly
2. The SL2-S Safari edition sold better than expected
3. An SL4 is coming in the next 18 months
4. The SL line will get superseded by the new medium format S (or whatever it’ll be named) and I am guessing will support L-mount via an adapter

Personally, I think it’s likely a combination of 1 and 4, but as an SL shooter, I’m hoping it’s 3, or 4 if Leica can keep the size and weight down on the new medium format system.

1 is definitely not true, as I know a few dealers stock. of course there is always a hiatus after the first year of launch, thus the sl3-s kits, but interestingly no sl3 kits, which means the sl3 is selling better.

2. maybe but not relevant. safaris are always limited production and there are always the greenies

3. 3-5 years cycle. But slower if selling steadily. I doubt before 2027 at the earliest

4. This is in reverse. The S wasn't a success which is why the SL came along. In any case, Leica need a full frame offering for mirrorless even if they have another attempt at medium format.

Nice that in the advertisement is stated that this camera makes pictures with the “ real Leica look” 

I was under the impression that we established years ago that a real Leica look doesn’t exist?

Or maybe it suggests the 'basic' SL3 does not make pictures with the real aLeica look 🙃 confusing or what.

Also, whenever a new camera is released there are always people who want something different: a black dot or no dot; internal storage with ain't going to happen without changing the camera architecture; content credentials etc, etc. 

Just proves you can please some of the people all of the time and all of the people some of the time, but you can't please all of the people all of the time (apologies to Abe Lincoln for the slight mis-quote).
