This is now my 'go to' longer M lens (I have 90s and a 135 too). Its taken me a while to really get used to using it but having done so I'm impressed by this solid, precise little lens. Its very 'sharp' and able to provide lots of fine detail on both my M9 and Sony cameras. It delivers excellent quality images and is surprisingly flare resistant. I do always lenve its correct hood in place which no doubt helps but equally I often shoot against the light too. It always wears a Leica UVa too, more for protection against salt spray than anything else. I had the Summicron and would be torn if I had to choose between them. All I can say is that the Summarit delivers high quality for a lot less money and remain a 'bargain' in the Leica M world.

Hmm, every time I read posts praising this lens it triggers the thought "Really must make more use of mine..."  Bought mine in early 2011 and first tests on M9 highlighted the superb resolution.

I have mixed feelings about the Summarit 75/2.5. My copy had quality issues with a fragile aperture ring that broke on me by simply using it, so i bought an Ultron 75/1.9 to replace it. With its f/1.9 aperture and 0.5m MFD, the Ultron is hard to beat TBH. As for the Summarit, it is not prone to flare when strong light sources are inside the frame but the oposite is not always true when the sun stands outside of the frame. Makes for superb images otherwise. Couple of snaps below with Sony a7s mod.

Well thay brings back memories as I lived a few miles sounth of Malmesbury for a few years as a teenager. Obviously couldn't afford Leicas back then but managed to scrape enough together for an OM1 and 50/1.8 which was not a bad little combination. Must get down there again at some point.

Here's one taken back in 2008, wide open @ MFD on the M8. My copy also suffered from the early "free spinning aperture ring issue", which was promptly fixed by Leica. I's been fine ever since. I find it much easier to focus than my APO 75/2 and practically on par in terms of IQ.
