Popular Post pgk Posted November 3 Popular Post Share #1 Posted November 3 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) This is now my 'go to' longer M lens (I have 90s and a 135 too). Its taken me a while to really get used to using it but having done so I'm impressed by this solid, precise little lens. Its very 'sharp' and able to provide lots of fine detail on both my M9 and Sony cameras. It delivers excellent quality images and is surprisingly flare resistant. I do always lenve its correct hood in place which no doubt helps but equally I often shoot against the light too. It always wears a Leica UVa too, more for protection against salt spray than anything else. I had the Summicron and would be torn if I had to choose between them. All I can say is that the Summarit delivers high quality for a lot less money and remain a 'bargain' in the Leica M world. Welcome, dear visitor! Keith (M) Posted November 3 Share #3 Posted November 3 Hmm, every time I read posts praising this lens it triggers the thought "Really must make more use of mine..." Bought mine in early 2011 and first tests on M9 highlighted the superb resolution. March 2011, Malmesbury - 1) full image and 2) crop of top left. Welcome, dear visitor! lct Posted November 3 Share #4 Posted November 3 (edited) I have mixed feelings about the Summarit 75/2.5. My copy had quality issues with a fragile aperture ring that broke on me by simply using it, so i bought an Ultron 75/1.9 to replace it. With its f/1.9 aperture and 0.5m MFD, the Ultron is hard to beat TBH. As for the Summarit, it is not prone to flare when strong light sources are inside the frame but the oposite is not always true when the sun stands outside of the frame. Makes for superb images otherwise. Couple of snaps below with Sony a7s mod. Welcome, dear visitor! Well thay brings back memories as I lived a few miles sounth of Malmesbury for a few years as a teenager. Obviously couldn't afford Leicas back then but managed to scrape enough together for an OM1 and 50/1.8 which was not a bad little combination. Must get down there again at some point.

Ecar Posted November 3 Share #8 Posted November 3 Here's one taken back in 2008, wide open @ MFD on the M8. My copy also suffered from the early "free spinning aperture ring issue", which was promptly fixed by Leica. I's been fine ever since. I find it much easier to focus than my APO 75/2 and practically on par in terms of IQ. Welcome, dear visitor! pgk Posted November 4 Author Share #9 Posted November 4 I still think this is a lens still available at a bargain (for Leica) price but that said, my impression is that prices are starting to rise slowly but surely. When I first got a 75mm I couldn't gel with it. Having owned f/1.4 and the f/2 lenses I now really appreciate its focal legth and am finding it a very usable one. It has supplanted my 90mm lenses as my standard short tele and is one of my 3 carry around lenses (the others being 35/1.4 and 21SEM) as its compact, light and performs virtually on a par with the others. It perhaps lacks the absolute bite of the Summicron and is probably a little more precise than the Summilux so provides a very viable alternative at half the price of one and less than a quarter of the price of the other. I've not tried other 75s and probably won't as I have the Summarit.
Kiwimac Posted November 4 Share #10 Posted November 4 I had one for a while. Wasn’t especially keen on the oof rendering of background stuff. I’ve got an image somewhere that shows that. I’ll dig it out and post it here later.
steve edmunds Posted November 4 Share #11 Posted November 4 i own the 75mm f2.4 summarit and its a cracking really sharp lens, very similar to the earlier f2.5 but close focus 0.7m , its my most used M lens and i enjoy the focal length.

wwwanderer Posted November 4 Share #13 Posted November 4 The 75mm f/2.5 Summarit-M lens is also my favorite. As is the M-EV1. Picture: 1/350, f/3,4, ISO 64. Welcome, dear visitor! luigi bertolotti Posted November 5 Share #14 Posted November 5 It's one of the very few lenses which I sold : together with M8... I assumed that, being well equipped with 90s, with FF it would be rather unused... no need to say, I regretted... 😗... it's true that the Elmarit-M 90 is excellent... but not SO light.... Jeff S Posted December 13 Share #16 Posted December 13 The late Erwin Puts praised the Summarit line, particularly the 35 and 75. https://www.imx.nl/photo/leica/lenses/lenses/page83.html I don’t bond with 75mm frame lines, but if I were starting to build a reasonably priced M kit, I’d look for a clean 35 Summarit, as it exhibits less flare and focus shift than the also excellent Summicron from that period. Too bad the line died off; Leica resisted marketing them as optically capable as the Summicron equivalents. Profits rule.
Chris Nebard Posted December 14 Share #17 Posted December 14 The Summarit 75 is a wonderful little lens. Ralph Gibson uses it (albeit the 2.4 version which, they say, is optically the same as the 2.5). If it’s good enough for legends such as him and the late Erwin Puts, it’s probably good enough for me 👍😂

That out of focus double lining would be an absolute red flag for me… YMMV. The ultron is a very good alternative to the APO Summicron. I’ve actually gone for 90mm with my M10-M and 11-D as a light crop on a 50 gets you a 75 very easily… the APO- Skopar 90/2.8 is a superb little lens and IMHO the best M tele to pop in the bag for occasional use. The Apo-Ultron 90/2 is superior from this viewpoint. YMMV.
