EVF seems antithetical to RF.  With that obvious observation, let's get down to the benefits... RF is not practical for certain applications at which the EVF is essential, such as macro or other forms of close photography or when using lenses with a closer focus than the RF can accommodate or when using R-lenses or any other non-RF lens.  EVF is certainly useful for critical focus, such as when using the 50/0.95 or long lenses and for composition of wide lenses and focus for fast wide lenses, but... using an EVF is like waving a flag saying look at me, I'm taking a picture, so if you are going for candid shots, it's a bit of a giveaway.  Also, when chimping / reviewing captures, folks think you are taking another picture and so it affects your environment.  Not complaining, just listing observations and experiences with the EVF in an effort to elucidate uses and applications along with trade-offs and drawbacks as well as benefits.

I think the ergonomics of the M is the main draw for some people. There's not a better digital camera out there for manual shooters. ISO/SS/aperture are all dedicated physical dials and it's small and easy to carry around all day long without a bag... I think the rangefinder is secondary for a lot of users.

I've been using 28mm on the street and don't really look through the range finder at all, the distance scale on the lens is fine for 28mm at narrow apertures and I'm often using an OVF from zeiss for framing, or the viso2 if I need critical composition. All depends how you shoot and what you want out of the M I guess. It's certainly nice to have options using the same (or similar) M bodies but with different feature sets.

My ideal daily carry would be a screenless M with a high res EVF rather than the rangefinder. You don't really need to chimp with an EVF because WYSIWYG and if you need to access menus / check a shot you can do it all through the EVF. But looking at another screen all day long is the last thing some of us want to do. Can't beat the rangefinder experience for a bit of digital-detox 😄

Scored a new in the box Visoflex V2 with leather case last week along with a Summicron-M 28 mm f2 ASPH III at less than list. Must have been one of the last Visoflex 2 devices ones around as the mother ship has no availability here in the USA and most dealers have not had one for awhile. Could be a new version in the works or all the parts output going into the M EV1.

M-EV1 has the parts from Q3's EVF, not from Visoflex 2.
