The Q and SL series have not been bug-free, but are certainly no worse than other brands. Clearly Leica knows how to write firmware for those product lines. That doesn't read like a corporate inability to write firmware (or get others to write it for them).

The old Leica employees are on the M team... a little more tech challenged, is my guess.

I said that the M is - or rather should be- a perfect tool to execute the essential functions of photography.  Nothing more.  Adding  ever more. (superfluous) functions beyond that concept will inevitably lead to problems.

To make something more buggy than the M11, they'd have to put in a lot of effort.

Here's the thing though...

You say if Leica implement a new feature and it doesn't work properly, it's'a bug'. Fine, I agree with you. Then you go and claim nothing can be more 'buggy' than an M11 - which to me is over the top. The initial cameras seemed to freeze a lot. I have seen people put that down to the SD card being used. I scratch my head when I see YouTubers reviewing the M10 and M11 only ever using live view. OK, Leica has introduced it, but one of the key features of the camera is the rangefinder. If you don't want to use the rangefinder you'd be better off with a Fuji, or a Q2/Q3/Q43.

I've had my M11 for about three weeks, used it quite a lot and have yet to encounter a single 'bug'.

I love the rangefinder more than any other camera. But LV in the M11 can be useful for precise framing and more accurate exposure. Therefore, I consider the bug I demonstrated in the video to be significant.

I didn't say it wasn't useful. I was just commenting on people buying the camera to use in a way it was never originally designed to be used, then complaining about it.

It's like putting a tow bar on a two seater sports car. I agree, Leica have implemented LV, and it can be useful. But it shouldn't be the main thing you shoot with, you'd be better off with a Q or a Fuji.

Hey, at least they didn't set fire to it, like Jimi. 😜

Shouldn't? Better? Some people want to use their M and LTM lenses in LV mode only. Pending the upcoming M11-V, photogs buying a Visoflex 2 are doing it in one purpose only: LV.

And there are affordable adapters to use them on more suitable cameras - like the SL series, or any Fuji, Nikon etc...

You mean on less suitable cameras i guess. Try and do auto zoom with M lenses on a Fuji, Nikon, etc. camera. Been (being) there done (doing) that 😉

Nikon may not have autozoom, but it does have manual focus assistance (including eye focus) that Leica never dreamed of.

Nikon competing with Leica on M and LTM lenses really? Do you mean with Kolari mod? For now, Leica has no competition with such lenses especially wides and ultrawides AFAIK. I have no clue about Pixii cameras though.

Yes, I mean the modified camera with thin glass.

My M11 Pair (P&M) have been as free from bugs as a frog is from hair.  Best thing is I have all controls, etc.  set exactly the same.

Come to think of it, I've never had a buggy M.  Not sure if the M8's color counted as a bug..  :)

I've found another bug in the M11-P firmware. Sometimes it seems like they'll never end. When using highlight-weighted metering, I always used the Exposure preview - Shutter button half-pressed setting. With this setting, the bug isn't noticeable. However, if you change the setting to Permanent, you'll notice that when composing a scene and half-pressing the shutter button, it takes 1 to 5 seconds for the LCD and histogram to change to the correct values (the same as what you'd see in the final image if you fully pressed the shutter button). Slightly recomposing the scene often reduces this time. This indicates either a slow processor, poorly written software, or both.

Yes I can reproduce this with my M11-P...

For the M11/M11-P, this bug, while annoying, isn't fatal. However, if this bug, along with poor firmware, migrates to the EVF-M, it would be a major problem.

It’s remarkable how much loyalty forum members have for Leica

If Nikon or Pentax make a digital rangefinder with small lenses - long as it’s well done - I won’t be able to switch fast enough. I am not loyal to a company, I’m loyal to a way of working. I just don’t have other options.
