EltonPL Posted July 30 Share #1  Posted July 30 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) I've just found a lovely used lens in box(s) with papers, etc. However, a thread protection ring for use without the thread-on shade is not included. Is one normally included with a new lens (as there was with my 28/2.8 Elmarit ASPH)? If they exist, I'd like to find one, as I often shoot without the hood because of the size. Yes, that slim ring should be included. But did you really dig deep enough into the lens pouch? It might be underneath a piece that’s covering it. don daniel Posted July 30 Share #5  Posted July 30 I would still recommend using the lens hood, because the Summicron 35mm ASPH is prone to lens flare. That’s also the reason why the lens hood was designed so large on version 2.

And that is why it could be that that lens is delivered without that ring. Indeed not all lenses have it in the box.
lct Posted July 30 Share #7 Â Posted July 30 Advertisement (gone after registration) I use the little hood of the Elmar-M 50/2.8 and did not notice significant flare with the Summicron 35/2 asph v2 so far. Works with the ring BTW.

I just remember that a while ago I took all the lens hoods off the lenses and put on that ring. That is when I found out that not all lenses had it in the box 😇 By the way I have no lens hoods on my lenses any more (unless it is built in). I like it much more like that and the whole setting is smaller again. And I had no issues so far. Neither with flaits nor finger prints . . . And without the hood you need new lids (covers) as well of course. These are not in the box either (nit all the time anyway). And here I found out that not all the lenses have that vover as a spare part. In that case take the diameter of your lens a look which other lens has the cover with the same size. The Leica store new all of this of course . . .
