Everyone is talking about an M-EVF.  Isn't a Q body with the M lens mount more realistic?

Already has the EVF.

Already has IBIS - which apparently is not possible for the M body (Stefan Daniels recent talk).

Manual focus with EVF confirmation.

Leica has promised us a big surprise!

No, because on the Q the lens-diaphragm-shutter-sensor assembly is one distinct unit.  Take all that out and you have a hollow shell which would need a complete redesign to accommodate all the M stuff and the flange-sensor distance would eat up the space needed for IBIS.  It would not be a big surprise, it would be an astounding feat of engineering.

So, then the M-V would have an EVF finder that shows the entire field of view for the mounted lens with focus confirmation.  What finder resolution might be possible - the OLED from the D-Lux 8?  How could they fit in the EVF from the Q3?  There would be no IBIS.  I guess we will have to be surprised!

I’m sure that it is not very hard for Leica to design an M-like camera with an EVF and a manual M mount. The thing holding them back is most likely the economic viability. There can’t be a perceptible market outside a subgroup of die-hard M users with vision problems.
Maybe they would bring out a limited edition at an eye-watering price to test the waters.

As others have said this is not possible. The Q3 does not have IBIS in any case but it does have OIS.

I would just wait and see what, if anything, is launched....

Agreed. Or just use a Visoflex.

This has been discussed ad nauseam over countless pages on the M11 forum. If you want to put yourself to sleep it's a good read...

And besides,  I don’t understand these discussions. Leica flourishes, we all have our beautiful Q’s and M’s and are happy with it.

Fujifilm makes all these other versions…. and for much less money!

Yes, the Q3 is OIS.  If it would use M lenses, IBIS would be a necessary addition, I can't envisage introducing a new EVF camera without it.  Leica promises us an "innovative product"!

Yes, true....but you observed how quickly it went off-topic.  Besides, it is only rumor (and perhaps wishful thinking) that it would be a M body.

Perhaps Leica has something more innovative in store for us?

Why not? See Fuji GFX100RF.

What about all the wannabe photographers who think Leica M is the coolest thing ever, but don't dare try a real rangefinder camera? 😄

Or all those seniors who used Leica cameras for decades, but now their eyesight prevents them from using a rangefinder.

They are among those @jaapv was referring to, I suppose.

If a Leica M11-V were to come to fruition there would likely be no IBIS. Leica is not going to reconstruct the M11 just for IBIS for a subset of a current camera. If the V were to be a success then they might add IBIS to the M12.

Those wannabe photographers cannot live without iAF, matrix metering, IBIS, panorama mode, etc. They want an iPhone in M shape with a red dot.

They just need an appointment with an ophthalmic surgeon.

I've actually just ordered an M9 shaped case for my iPhone. But that will just be in addition to my real M! 😄

Since most of this thread is based on rumors and wishful thinking, I started wishing and thinking about an M12 that is more like the M4 (then M6) resurrection after the M5.

If the EVF-M was a similar sized (to an M camera - smaller than an SL) but a different (IBIS, etc) and had all (at least most) of the modern niceties like (the necessary) live view and video, would that leave room for the M12 to be more of an "older school" camera?  One with a more typical (for am M camera) shutter (metering via something other than the sensor), manual and aperture priority, standard optical rangefinder, selectable live view (like DSLRs had/have - never used an M9 or M10 so do not know how they implemented it but I do not think my M8 (long gone) had it), no video.

Sort of dividing the M mount cameras into two lines - EVF line with all the current and yet to come modern goodies and an optical RF line with all of the heritage.

I would likely pass on the EVF-M (2 Q's is enough) but in a proverbial "heartbeat" would buy a simplified (and hopefully robust) M-12 in chrome, black or green.

Just dreaming!
