Well, the red "1221" looks very similar in both photos, since the red and infrared filters both let the red wavelengths through. But the green plants look very different.

Sorry, but I don't understand your second comment about Ilford.

Thanks for the first point..

second i was asking if ilford HC developer will be oke to develop the monopan 50 since choices are quite limiting here

I think it's already been mentioned in this thread but here is a review of HR-50/Monopan and Ilfotec HC results are ok

Is it my eyes or when developed in ilfotec be it hc or ddx, seem quite soft compared to FX39? 
the fx39 is out of question actually… but im kind of intrigued to ship it over frm fotoimpex.. but would it be a problem shipping or importing in liquid form?

Yes HC isn't the best, but not terrible either. Since using FX-39 with HR-50 I wouldn't go back to any other developer, and it's now my standard developer for almost everything. In the UK Adox is readily available, but on the occasion I needed some film quickly I found Fotoimpex had a minimum order value of £166 for countries outside the EU.

There much discussion about the development of the Leica Monopan 50 film indicating which developer may be better to use.

its been at least 2 decades since I developed my own films, instead using one or two different labs.

it seems that the development process is slightly different, one source talks about 2 turns per minute instead of constant agitation.

Im in the UK and wondered if anyone knew of a lab that would be able to develop this film?

The reduced agitation is needed to lower the high contrast of the film. I've been trying ADOX HR 50 which appears to be the stock used for Monopan (the main difference is the improved cassette light seals, etc) and got the best result so far using DD-X with 10 sec initial agitation, then one slow inversion each minute. I still have to try the special HR developer that I bought.

The tonal response of the film with its very high red sensitivity gives interesting results compared to "normal" B&W film. Here are a shots taken for a recent challenge. The color is Portra 400 with a IIIf and Elmar 2.8, and the B&W is HR50 in a IIIg Summicron developed as above. Both home developed and just auto-scanned on a V850 flat bed.

Interesting. I develop in DDX as well… I need to try the reduce agitation you mentioned. I like the Leica and Adox film… but it sure is contrasty! Thanks for the info.
