Paul2660 Posted May 27 Share #2 Posted May 27 How fast the mighty have fallen, in those prices. Used for 2.6K, from B&H, thus trade in would be around 1.9K. A little over two years ago, list new was 6K? For The SL2. Personally I was hoping to see the value of both increase as the price for the SL3 at close to 8K now is going to put that camera out of reach for some. jaapv Posted May 27 Share #3 Posted May 27 So they have caved in after everybody else was selling at these prices.
o2mpx Posted May 28 Share #4 Posted May 28 (edited) The SL series definitely haven’t retained value compared to M cameras. The SL2 might even be worse post SL3 announcement vs the SL601 when the SL2 came out. And my silver version doesn’t seem to matter at all. If the SL3 likely will follow this depreciation curve, it’s not likely a wise purchase until after the SL4 comes out? Stuart Richardson Posted May 29 Share #6 Posted May 29 Just be happy it is not an S...then it would be worth about 600 or 800 dollars by comparison. 1
Geoff C. Bassett Posted May 29 Share #7 Posted May 29 Advertisement (gone after registration) MPB seems to have dropped their prices in response. SL2s is tempting.
jaapv Posted May 29 Share #8 Posted May 29 More than that - a no-brainer.
padam Posted May 31 Share #9 Posted May 31 One can still buy a new SL2-S and reclaim VAT. Until this is available, all used prices are a joke in comparison.
davidmknoble Posted June 1 Share #10 Posted June 1 (edited) I love my SL3 compared to the SL2 as the dynamic range is so much better. But, I also have the SL2-S and I see no reason to upgrade that (because in part I don’t shoot video) and that camera has great colors, great higher ISO results and is just fast because the files are not so large. It’s fun to shoot some intentional work with larger sensor size, but simple everyday shooting is perfect with the SL2-S. IMHO. Edited June 1 by davidmknoble missing words! wattsy Posted June 6 Share #11 Posted June 6 Trade-in and resale aside, the depreciation on the SL2 and SL2-S is good news for Leica buyers (at least those not looking to trade-up). The SL2-S must surely be the best value product in Leicaland? It is true that you can buy a brand new Panasonic S5 II (essentially the same camera as the SL2-S) for £1399 or less in the UK – even better value, if all you care about is taking photos with L mount lenses – but I think the Leica colour, build and design philosophy is worth the extra grand.

MPB reeled me in - a LN graded SL2 is on the way after a rather lengthy trade in process.
