I would like to raise a point here for some feedback, about one design issue that affects my final version. Do we need or want a connection for a 12 volt in car adapter to power this Franken II charger? This is simple enough to add, but of course affects the cost.

Most definitely yes. For traveling photographers & photojournalist in areas where mains are a rarity this could be a life saver. I wouldn't buy one WITHOUT the 12V adapter.

OK guys - Tim Isaac and I are in touch with each other and bouncing ideas backwards and forwards. I personally feel the major hurdle is not getting the charger made but getting regulatory approval, both CE and CSA. After all, look what the new TATA car for the Indian market costs, when it does not have to meet EU and US regulations - about €1500.

Some of your thoughts please: single battery, dual battery or two models. If two models, the unit cost will inevitably be a bit higher. Does anyone use the 12v car charging facility. Would a solar panel option be bought by many - it would cost about £50/$100 extra. Flying mains lead with figure 8 socket on the charger or built in changeable plugs. Any other suggestions would be welcome.

Wilson, I think there is still interest in your project. Do you or Tim have an update for those of us holding money in our hands?

Bill,

It is in Tim's hands at the moment. My only role is to be a co-investor as, when and if we decide to go ahead. I do not intend to be involved in either the manufacturing or marketing of the charger.

I don't know if it's possible, but if you really want 12V and it would bulk up the charger - could the 12V part be a separate unit interposed between the charger and the power source. I was thinking like the power adapter on most laptop computers.

If it doesn't make much difference size-wise then I don't care either way.

WITH OR WITHOUT. JUST MAKE THE DAMN THING ALREADY!!!!

my charger died a week ago.. ive been trying to get a replacement with my local (Singapore) Leica distributors. they are being less then helpful i must say.

Regardless. for the price tag of this camera. the supplied charger is an Insult to M8 users worldwide.

I really hope Tim can pull this through. I would pay leica prices for a dependable, convienient charging solution any day.

How else would i charge my batteries?

Buy ANOTHER Leica Brick?? i dont think so.
