Fotogo Posted March 13, 2008 Share #162 Posted March 13, 2008 I vote "yes" for a 12 V connector. I vote no for the 12 volt connection.

Vieri Posted March 13, 2008 Share #165 Posted March 13, 2008 I would like to raise a point here for some feedback, about one design issue that affects my final version. Do we need or want a connection for a 12 volt in car adapter to power this Franken II charger? This is simple enough to add, but of course affects the cost. Most definitely yes. For traveling photographers & photojournalist in areas where mains are a rarity this could be a life saver. I wouldn't buy one WITHOUT the 12V adapter. cbretteville Posted March 13, 2008 Share #166 Posted March 13, 2008 12V, yes please! - Carl
papimuzo Posted March 14, 2008 Share #167 Posted March 14, 2008 Advertisement (gone after registration) No need for the 12 V. connect, but will buy despite it:D Good news Tim. Unfortunately I am on the verge to buy a second Franken_Leica charger as going away for 2 months and my 4 batteries will not be sufficient. All the best. danyves Posted March 14, 2008 Share #168 Posted March 14, 2008 One can use a DC 12V/200/120 converter. More universal.
wparsonsgisnet Posted March 14, 2008 Share #169 Posted March 14, 2008 A converter means $25 or so and another thing the size of this charger.

AndyAitken Posted March 15, 2008 Share #171 Posted March 15, 2008 "Yes" to the 12V - will greatly add to the flexibility (eg could be charged from some of the solar chargers available as well in-car).
AlanJW Posted March 15, 2008 Share #172 Posted March 15, 2008 Tim gets the deciding vote(s). All the rest is advisory only. 8-)
papimuzo Posted April 7, 2008 Share #173 Posted April 7, 2008 Just to get this thread out of dust.. is there any news about this marvel? Tim? Wilson? All the best to all.
wparsonsgisnet Posted May 7, 2008 Share #174 Posted May 7, 2008 OK guys - Tim Isaac and I are in touch with each other and bouncing ideas backwards and forwards. I personally feel the major hurdle is not getting the charger made but getting regulatory approval, both CE and CSA. After all, look what the new TATA car for the Indian market costs, when it does not have to meet EU and US regulations - about €1500. Some of your thoughts please: single battery, dual battery or two models. If two models, the unit cost will inevitably be a bit higher. Does anyone use the 12v car charging facility. Would a solar panel option be bought by many - it would cost about £50/$100 extra. Flying mains lead with figure 8 socket on the charger or built in changeable plugs. Any other suggestions would be welcome. Wilson Wilson, I think there is still interest in your project. Do you or Tim have an update for those of us holding money in our hands? wlaidlaw Posted May 8, 2008 Author Share #175 Posted May 8, 2008 Wilson, I think there is still interest in your project. Do you or Tim have an update for those of us holding money in our hands? Regards, Bill, It is in Tim's hands at the moment. My only role is to be a co-investor as, when and if we decide to go ahead. I do not intend to be involved in either the manufacturing or marketing of the charger. Wilson
papimuzo Posted May 8, 2008 Share #176 Posted May 8, 2008 Some threads ago, I put the same question in another form... http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/leica-m8-forum/52650-what-happend-franken-ii.html Tim, by PM, informed me that it needs about 2000 units to be able to launch an industrial run. So, the ball is between us apparently:rolleyes: . Best regards.
dpattinson Posted May 9, 2008 Share #177 Posted May 9, 2008 I don't know if it's possible, but if you really want 12V and it would bulk up the charger - could the 12V part be a separate unit interposed between the charger and the power source. I was thinking like the power adapter on most laptop computers. If it doesn't make much difference size-wise then I don't care either way.
chanmin Posted August 4, 2008 Share #178 Posted August 4, 2008 WITH OR WITHOUT. JUST MAKE THE DAMN THING ALREADY!!!! my charger died a week ago.. ive been trying to get a replacement with my local (Singapore) Leica distributors. they are being less then helpful i must say. Regardless. for the price tag of this camera. the supplied charger is an Insult to M8 users worldwide. I really hope Tim can pull this through. I would pay leica prices for a dependable, convienient charging solution any day. How else would i charge my batteries? Buy ANOTHER Leica Brick?? i dont think so.
