I've seen Leica 100 year (based on M11) which came before the Safari with Serials of 612xxxx (not sure if its intentional). I asked Leica London two weeks ago but got no real answers. They told me I can use normal M11 battery instead. My battery performance is rather poor, less than 300 shoots on average. The battery life on my M11 Mono is in the region of 500-600. I rarely use live view and the back screen is off most of the time. Perhaps that's the reason?
