Exciting news. Made me think back some years when I owned the Apo-Summicron-R 2.0/180mm. I sold it - a bad decision considering what the market pays now - but the lens was too bulky and heavy. I hope the Sigma lens will be lighter - but that the quality will match the Apo-Summicron is perhaps too much to ask for.

Have you used a Sigma art lens recently? They are pretty stunning. Even the less expensive ones. I have a 105mm Sigma Art 2.8 Macro, and performs nearly the same as my 120mm APO Macro Summarit S, which is one of the best lenses Leica has ever made. The sharpness is the same, contrast, freedom from aberration and so on. The Leica may have a nearly minuscule edge in bokeh, and slightly different color but the Sigma is much much smaller (it is a 35mm lens though, not S sized) and has faster, quieter AF, focuses to 1 to 1 and cost about an eighth of the price. That S lens was from 2009 or so. The 180mm APO Summicron is a 31 year old design...I would not be surprised at all if Sigma surpassed the quality.

Yes, I have the Art 70mm and 105mm macro lenses. Both are superb. I also just got the 5.6/500mm. Not an Art lens, but still. I am again and again impressed by Sigma.

I use a canon 200 f 2 with a sigma ef to L mount adapter on sl2 and sl2-s cameras.  Beautiful images and sharp.  autofocus is good but works only in single AF I believe.  A dedicated art sigma in this focal length and ap will likely be great.

Indeed, that 105 Macro is epic, as is the 50/1.2 DG DN Art lens, currently my most used...my APO Summicrons have not seen much action since getting this 50. Really hoping for a 28/1.4 or 1.2 as well as a 135/1.8 or 105/1.4.....I'm super impressed with Sigma's latest releases!

the 200mm f2 is releasing mid june, dunno if its also an APO though

Sounds good, irrespective whether it will be an APO or not. If not, I would think the optical quality will be close to APO nevertheless.

Has anyone heard any more updates on this rumored Sigma 200mm F2 lens? Can't seem to find any information other than this post. Thanks.

The original rumor provider is now saying August 19th.

I look forward to the reveal.

Looks like Sigma is (particularly) serious with their new line of white lenses; the Sigma 300-600mm f4 is impressive, indeed.

Thank you for this. I'm definitely interested in this lens but I'm also intrigued that Leica may introduce a 135mm prime for the SL line as well.

The rumor with the 135mm was a missunderstanding from the tranlation by the interviewer and was corrected by the magazine. Look here in both forums (german and intern.) but never corrected in the rumors-sites.

Yes unfortunately. Let’s hope it becomes true in a not so distant future though, I would love to have a Leica 135mm APO lens.
