Jptsr1 Posted May 5 Share #41 Posted May 5 Advertisement (gone after registration) I want to want the SL3s so bad! The issue is I took my SL2 with me when I went to the hands on event. Perhaps it was just the sample that they had but the camera didn't seem as solid as my now 2 year old SL2. It wasn't anything near as cheep feeling as my Canon or Fuji bodies but there seemed to be just the slightest bit of "give" in the dials and buttons. I don't think I would have noticed if I didn't have my SL2 with me. I'm actually going to look at one again today and if I have the same feeling I'll just pull the trigger on an SL2s instead. As for the technical upgrades between the two I'm not talented enough to take advantage of them.

Lev55 Posted May 5 Share #42 Posted May 5 Does anybody notice that the EVF is not so sharp on the Sl3-S as on the SL2-S?

simon_hsn Posted May 5 Share #44 Posted May 5 I wondered the same thing, as the EVF subjectively appears less sharp. I believe the reason is that the SL3-S allows for more digital cropping, making the EVF image appear closer but less sharp

Lev55 Posted May 5 Share #46 Posted May 5 I don’t have my Leica sl 2 anymore but maybe somebody who has both Cameras can check. After I shoot the photo and review it on the EVF it is very sharp. I cannot remember if the digital zoom is closer on the newer models.
Photoworks Posted May 8 Share #47 Posted May 8 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just looked true 3 cameras, they are very similar and probably the same screens and optics. SL2, SL3, S1RII I have noticed that the SL3 feels a little bit closer, and people with glasses may have a minimal challange to look in the corners. All the cameras are set to the default 60. If you turn the EVF to 120, everything is softer, a real challenge focusing M lenses. If you have AF-C, the OLED screen in the EVF becomes softer and pixelated. BLACKOUT, the SL3 has double blackout time in between frames, SL2 is fast, and S1RII is just a bit faster. PS. I don't use SL2s or SL3s
Lev55 Posted May 8 Share #48 Posted May 8 Thank you very much for your feedback. I’m very happy about the camera. I believe the image quality is the same. I like that it’s a bit smaller and lighter. The new connectivity features with very fast transfer speeds are also superb. Additionally, you can use the Leica Looks directly, which I think has a lot of potential in the future. I’m also looking forward to the cloud functions that will be added in the future.

Whether you buy an SL3-S or an SL2-S comes practically down to ergonomics. Image quality is the same. The looks it provides make only sense in a JPEG workflow (who does that with a proper FF camera?). l I bought the SL2-S when it came out because of the sensor’s texture and sensitivity, the colour science (skin tones, greens and reds), the IBIS, the lenses it can take, and the sturdiness which is remarkable. For faces and what I do (fashion, events, nature) the AF is good enough. From my perspective, the only feature that can be seen as a clear upgrade is the SL3-S’ tilted screen. I don’t need that because I’m a 100% viewfinder guy. 1
giganova Posted July 27 Share #50 Posted July 27 The flip screen is why I am not upgrading to the SL3 or SL3-S: adds complexity and weight that doesn't align IMHO with the minimalistic Leica design approach. I want my camera design as simple as possible.
jaapv Posted July 27 Share #51 Posted July 27 And if such a screen is there, it should be articulated IMO.

jaapv Posted July 27 Share #53 Posted July 27 My problem is that it is only a half-solution. You cannot use it on the side for video, nor can you reverse it completely to hide/protect the EVF.

However, I much prefer the tilt to the flip-out as it is quicker to operate and works better when shooting from the hip. I suppose it is better for still images, but not for video. I am fine with that.
jaapv Posted July 28 Share #55 Posted July 28 A matter of preference I suppose. I have some cameras with flip screens and never used them. However my Panasonics are always with reversed screens as there is no need to use it during shooting.
zupfgeiger Posted July 28 Share #56 Posted July 28 I am happy with my new SL2 S and the dedicated SL 50mm Summicron. But I would not sell my M11 and stick to the SL as my only camera. Days with my M11 and the bunch of M lenses are precious.
