sure sigma does it too i believe, but the thing is, people arent completely sure if the correction data is actually done by the camera to the raw file as its saved to camera, or if it merely stores the correction data to the raw file, and then its done automatically by the editing software.

I know that most editing software has options for known lens issues. Some even for known camera issues.. however for someone trying to do photos, the forced AI editing isnt wanted.

I would not call that real computational photography, since it seem to be only some minor distortion to be corrected.

Real computational photography creates artificial content based on what the software/AI imagines as probable.

Basically all of today’s smartphones work that way by taking several pictures from multiple cameras/focal length etc.

'forced AI editing' is not involved in most cases. Most are just transformations placed in the DNG file which then are applied by the algorithms implemented in the editing software. No AI at all.

Been so in Leica's Q line since the first model.

= lens in my beloved Q343 being an "educated dud" :D ?

Impossible to verify and don't care: I'm very happy with it :)

With reference to the OP's post re APO lenses, I use the 280/4 APO-Telyt-R and the 100/2.8 APO-Macro-Elmarit-R and in my opinion they are both still class-leading despite the modern technological 'improvements' that have come to pass.  (I must admit that the Leica 90-280/2.8-4 APO-Vario-Elmarit-SL produces some exceptional pictures that keep nudging me to acquire one.)

The 280/4 APO-Telyt R is still stellar and works well on digital. Here is my 280/4 APO Telyt R with 1.4 x APO on my S(006) using the Leiko adapter

I can also confirm that a whole range of R lenses are truly amazing. I inherited some from my father, such as the 80 f/1.4 and the 100 f/2.8 Apo-Macro. Then I bought the 280 f/4 Apo-Telyt and the 180 f/2.8 Apo-Elmarit. Not only are the latter two extremely easy to focus, I'm always impressed by the superb resolution, even with a strong crop. I also considered buying the 180 f/2 Apo-Lens, but without a monopod, it's out of the question, at least on the M, which is where I usually use it...

Here are a few examples:

Yikes! That is a big bugger.

I have the 70-180, 2.8 elmarit. It is a big heavy bugger too, but it shoots superb images, even wide open.

Yes, he has the 70-180, plus a 280/2.8, all nice, all out of my price range unfortunately. Some nice gear floating to the surface of late though.

My local pusher has a beautiful 180/2, I drooled all over it a week ago.

The 180/2 APO Summicron is my all time favourite lens. When it was hooked up to my DMR, it produced some stellar shots. DoF at F2 is razor thin, but a ground glass Brightscreen in the R9 made focussing in low light a dream. No need to lift weights when you hand hold this. Here's a shot of Billy Cobham from back in 2014 at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival.

180/2 R9/DMR hand held 1/45th sec to get the blur on the sticks.

Here is a photo taken with my new favorite thing, the 400mm f/2.8 apo Telyt-R; the Middlesbrough transporter bridge, a bit of an iconic landmark. This is with the lens fully open at f/2.8(cropped a bit to get it to post on here). The bridge is around 1 mile away. I still can't get my head around the fact that I have this thing, to say it is a dream come true is a huge understatement. This photo was actually taken from a nature reserve; I am getting used to allocating quite a bit of extra time to take photos as the lens is quite a talking point!

And another one, this time adding the 2x apo extender, so 800mm. This is at Seal Sands, Teesside, near where I took the photo of the bridge. Apparently this is the only place in the whole of Europe where seals have returned to an area that was heavily polluted due to industry. Again this photo is heavily cropped to get it small enough to post on here. For reference, the seal is probably around 100m away.

I can confirm that the diminutive 180 F3.4 Apo-Telyt is an outstanding performer even on the 102MP sensor of the GFX 100s, which is quite an amazing feat for such an "old" lens 🙂

My recollection is "outstanding when focused at infinity, less so when focused at near distances" 🙂

I used to own the 180 f/3.4 APO and thought it was a tremendous lens, even with the 2x APO extender.

I shoot mainly with Blads now (mostly film; a little digital) and the 250 Superachromat with 2x mutar I think is equally impressive.

I regularly shoot with R lenses on my SL-2, using the Leica R-to-L adapter, after my DMR finally gave out. Since this topic is about the APO R lenses, I'll simply say that my most beloved lens is my 100/2.8 APO-Macro-Elmarit-R, closely followed by my 280/4.0 APO-Telyt-R. With such stellar quality, I don't see ever giving these up.

I would confirm that it performs better at infinity (for what it was originally optimized) but is no slouch at near distances, it's just not so outstanding 🙂
