And yet, in the latest mailing, Leica is promoting the visoflex… why would they do that if a Mevf is around the corner?

Not in the US, where some dealers seem not to be restocking the Visoflex 2.

That's the best thing about it🤣

The 90 is one of my standard lenses on my 246 and was on my M2/3 .

Yes the box can be small but I have no problem with focus.

I wear glasses and have been using M`s since the eighties.

Ditto here but the RF is useless when using the current macro adapter. The previous one with goggles can work with the Macro-Elmar 90/4 but it is less handy.

Ah .... never used one.

I use my M lenses on my CL and SL2s sometimes too .... I have no issue with either method tbh

Hear me out.

The description says that there will be no “rangefinder window”. Which window? Theres two. This is likely referring to the small prism on the right front facade that supplies the RF patch, cross referencing Leica’s own internal documents and labeling. It doesn’t say that the “viewfinder window” (the one that we look through) is gone. In addition they mention the frame selector lever now has “dual functionality for viewfinder.”

Why would there be a frame selector lever in an EVF camera?

It makes sense.

The M11-V will still have an optical viewfinder window but with a frame selector lever that turns on the EVF, and the smaller rangefinder window is gone and thus no more focusing patch since there’s no need for the rangefinder anymore.

Why keep the OVF you might ask? Frame selector previewing for frame lines. Above all else, if you have OVF frame lines, you can still use it to snap frames via zone focusing. You don’t need the rangefinder patch to focus when you’re at f/11 and zone focused. Pull the viewfinder to your eye and snap. Want to use EVF? Toggle the frameline dual functionality.

I’m convinced this is it.

Of course the big window is gone. That's where the EVF goes. The frame line selector will probably just bring up the various frame lines overlayed on the scene as you toggle it. Could also be mapped to function as something else, like focus aid selector. If they were retaining the full legacy optical rangefinder functionality they would mention that (scream it actually). If this document is authentic that is.

The film rewind knob became an ISO dial (M10 >).

The film advance lever turned into a "fold-out thumb rest" (M10-D).

So I hoped that the viewfinder/rangefinder window could also be reused for something clever.

Instead, they have apparently chosen the simplest solution and just removed it.

Or maybe Leica doesn't want to kill the M12, which will come in a hybrid configuration, including an optical/digital viewfinder, with the option of a digital rangefinder (possibly using LIDAR?).

Rather an ugly Q2 like protrusion, I wonder if the eyepiece is round, keeping the classic M body style.

A diopter adjustment lever could be introduced as per the control under the rewind knob on the Barnack IIIf ;  or make it motorized like the Hasselblad  X2D with no direct mechanical trim knob.

Curious to know what the focus aids are and if there is anything innovative. Good that the EVF is more SL/Q like in its resolution and not just a Visoflex 2 built in. I hope it’s just the rangefinder window that is missing and the viewfinder one is still present or it’s going to look a bit weird having an M with a totally clean top plate.

Makes sense to me, form following function and all. If it’s not a rangefinder it’s not an M and doesn’t need to parade as one. If any of this is credible, which. Who knows! Not interested though.
