Hello guys!
I have an idea to buy 90mm Leica lens. Have two offers: Summicron f2.0 1996 year(for $1000 in a good condition with case) and Summarit f2.4($1350 new in box).
I prefer to buy new lenses from dealers, but there is one thing I don't like in Summarit - it's a resin ring.

What would you choose in this situation? May be you can advice or describe some advantages of one lens to other?

You might like to start by having a look through this thread from five years ago;

I'm not sure what that means but I cannot imagine that it will have any detrimental effect on your photos.

I guess, this goes hand in hand with Ken Rockwell's myth that the mechanical quality of the Summarits is inferior to that of "true" Leica lenses. 😉 IMHO, this is nothing more than a myth. I had the 90/2.4 Summarit but ultimately sold it, as I also have the 90 macro elmar which showed less chromatic aberration and as I don't need the larger aperture for my purposes. But the mechanical quality, let alone the rubberized focus ring was not an issue at all.

Ken Rockwell is a comedian. That so many folks apparently take him seriously is also kinda funny.

I seem to recall that the Summicron 90/2 v3 has a good reputation here. Mine works fine for portraits but it produces too much color fringing for my taste so it tends to remain in a drawer to my shame. The Summarit 90/2.4 has no such issue but it is a modern lens with high contrast you may like or not. Better compromise is the Summicron 90/2 v2 to me but is a bulky lens. Here v2 (left) together with a Summicron 90/2 apo that has the same size as the v3.
