Buck777 Posted January 22 Share #1 Posted January 22 Advertisement (gone after registration) I’m the proud owner of a M10-R which I love. I was actually very fortunate to secure one as Leica only ever sold 15 in my country ( NZ ), due mainly because they launched the M11 8 months after launching the 10-R, for slightly cheaper! Love the 40mp sensor, love the base plate, love what the M10-R produces. There is one model though that if it arrived on the market I’d trade in for, the M11 Safari. I love the green/olive look as I previously had a Q2 Reporter. The Safari is ‘overdue’ as far as the previous launches are concerned, so it’s a good bet it’s arriving this year. There are absolutely no rumours saying one will be coming other than they always have! My Leica store has recently acquired a M11-P grade 10, which means still under Leica warranty, never used. It’s retailing for over $3K cheaper than a new one. It’s been eating at me. The Safari will be at least $3K more ( I sat at least as my country’s $ is dropping against the US$ which dictates the Leica rrp). If I trade in my M10-R for this M11-P there will only be a $3K difference as there is high demand for M10-R’s due to their relative scarcity. Am I being an idiot waiting for a model that really will only have a different paint finish? Is saving 3-4K a better deal to put towards a good lens? Is the M10-R better than both so I should calm down and keep it?! I trialed the original M11 and liked the resolution but ended up buying the Q2 at the time. appreciate your thoughts. I guess it’s similiar to trading for a BP version. Same model just different look.
Advertisement Posted January 22 Posted January 22 Hi Buck777, Take a look here M10-R for a M11-P?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Derbyshire Man Posted January 22 Share #2 Posted January 22 Your first two paragraphs say no. All you will do is buy the M11-P taking the hit and when in due course the safari is released you'll do the same. Keep it in the bank for now!
Deeetona Posted January 22 Share #3 Posted January 22 You want the Safari. Then buy the Safari.

But maybe look at these: what is #1 priority for you, being out and about with your cameras, working on some cool photo project? Looking at your camera collection with special, rare specimen? Basking in the glow that you own "the best" of what is currently available? Whatever you answer - you should be happy. There is nothing worse than a nagging "what if".
costa43 Posted January 22 Share #6 Posted January 22 You state that you love the m10r so sticking with it won't cause you any hardship. It's in my opinion the best modern M anyhow. If an M11 safari edition is released then you can go for it, if not then the m12 will be next probably so you can make a decision there or pick up an M11 for less. I think we will see an m12 this year or a significant variant of the m11 gen. Leica's 100 year anniversary and no M model released besides a Safari is unlikely imo. Towards the end of this year will be close on 4 years since the m11 was released so it is not too far off the usual cycle.
charlesphoto99 Posted January 22 Share #7 Posted January 22 Advertisement (gone after registration) Is the M11 going to do something significant to improve or help you in your photography? If not, then all you have is GAS (Gear Acquisition Syndrome) because you think you have found a 'bargain.' If itching for a shiny new black object, and you have to scratch that itch, always better to do it with lenses. They never go out of fashion/function and will actually do something significant as far as your photography goes, esp if it's not a focal length you've had before. And they'll lose a lot less value than an M11 will, esp since the M12 will be right around the corner, with the GAS'ers lining up to trade their now 'obsolete' M11's in on the 'latest, greatest.'
Photoworks Posted January 22 Share #8 Posted January 22 The M cycle is more than 5 years now and we are just 3 years in from M11. the safari edition came before m10M and M10R M10R BP Will there be another Safari? For the 100 Years celebration, there will be lots of new products, so I have been told, but only Leica knows what that is.
JNK100 Posted January 22 Share #9 Posted January 22 The M11p is a great camera and it seems you have found a great deal. There may never be an M11 Safari of course.
Smogg Posted January 22 Share #10 Posted January 22 If the M11-P(purple) has a purple tint, does that mean the Safari version will have a green tint?😜 1

Sounds like you already have an excellent Leica M camera that you're happy with. So maybe buying some S&P500 stocks instead of another depreciating asset could be a wiser choice 😎
