It's not surprising to see more aggressive NR being applied above 12,800 because at those ISOs, we expect some tradeoffs like detail smearing and color integrity loss. That said, we do have the M11 as a baseline without any baked in NR, and that seems to support your theory. Actually looks like to me that the sensor isn't designed to be analog above 12,800, but Leica has had Sony customize the sensor at these ISOs for both M11 and SL3. I say that because the A7R5 and GFX 100S both are outside the analog range above 12,800. How can a sensor not be analog? The signal only gets digital after the ADC. Advertisement Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Hi jaapv, Take a look here Shooting an Event in a few Weeks - SL3 or SL2-S as second body?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

What @hdmesa intended to say is “outside normal analog range.” That is P2P terminology.
jaapv Posted December 30, 2024 Share #43 Posted December 30, 2024 Yes, but the term digital sensor makes no sense. It isn’t.

E.g, using ISO 1600 analog but applying digital metatags to simulate higher ISOs.
jaapv Posted December 30, 2024 Share #45 Posted December 30, 2024 Precisely. Applying to the ADC output, not to the sensor. I dislike sloppy terminology.
hellobrandonscott Posted December 30, 2024 Share #46 Posted December 30, 2024 The reason I have so many SL2-S' is because I've really understood the value of having identical bodies when shooting weddings (or events in your case) at scale. Everything is the same, so it's one less moment you have to spend thinking, editing is the same, everything matches. Maybe not a big deal if you're doing this as a one-off gig, but the benefits really stack up as you scale up. 4
Dr. G Posted January 4 Author Share #47 Posted January 4 Advertisement (gone after registration) I ultimately decided to take two SL3 bodies and the Q3 43. During the day I’ll keep the 21 APO and 75 APO Mounted and use Q3 43 to fill the gap. One additional lens I’m taking is the sigma 50 1.2. It’s a culinary event so the Sigma will allow me to do low light candids for indoor and night events and with a 40cm MFD do close up photos of the plated dishes. On the SL3 with IBIS I can shoot close up with the sigma at 1/15-1/30. It all fits nicely in my Think Tank Vision 13.
