Updated to 1.4 with FW on SD card.

No question was asked about backing up Profiles. After update I only manually had to adjust time/date.

A bit disappointed that Leica Look sis still not available for the D-Lux 8, but hey give them some more time....

The Looks are available in the app

I've updated my M11's, Q3 and SL3 all through FOTOS but no option to do that currently available for the D-Lux 8 although it refers to that method in the release notes. Seems to be SD card only right now which is disappointing. All my other cameras came up with 'update available' in FOTOS! No option to save profiles during the update but they're all there afterwards.

I have just bought a D-Lux 8 a few days ago and installed Fotos on my Sony Android phone. This evening the app showed the 1.4 Firmware to be available and I downloaded it to the phone. Connected phone and camera transfer progress bar moved about half a centimetre and there it stayed for 10 minutes. Message on phone was transferring on camera screen "downloading". It was clear nothing was happing.

I decided to stop the transfer. Fortunately the camera is okay.

I say this because I had a very bad experience some years ago with an X-Vario. Updating the firmware on that via the SD card method was a disaster. The camera decided to switch itself off. No it wasn't me I heeded the dire warnings about not switching off but the camera decided to go off on its own accord. Needless to say X-Vario had to go back for repairs, fortunately it was still under warranty.

Not wanting a repeat of the X-Vario experience and noting that this update didn't seem to want to work using the Foto app method I am very relucant to try again less this camera suffer the same fate as the X-Vario.

Also because of the problems during the X Vario update I have never updated the firmware of my M262 nor ME240 and they are still as supplied in 2016 and 2019 respectively. Only successful firmware update I did was on an X1 which was a doddle.

This may well be why they have appeared to pull the update from the FOTOS app, I’m on iOS and it’s not available anymore.

The update isn't showing up in the Photos app on iOS for me. When attempting to do the card method, it looks like my browser was automatically renaming the file. Once I renamed it to

DLX8_140.ifu

it was recognized by the camera. Now it's requiring more charge to install the update. 😅 So a little bit longer for me. 🙃
