My M10 ISO dial does not match what appears in Live View, which is the ISO that seems to govern.   For example the dial is set to 400 and LV shows 3200.  Dial at 6400 and LV shows 100.

I have the latest firmware (3.22.23.38).  And I am not able to reinstall the firmware to eliminate the possibility that it is corrupted, maybe because I have the latest.

Anyone experience this?  I just don't want to send the camera for servicing (for multiple weeks) if I can hep it.  I am based in New York City.

Thank you!

This phenomenon once happened with the early batch of the M10 series…

I believe the M10 uses a tiny magnet inside the ISO knob, that rotates with the knob and signals the knob position to the camera, via the location of its magnetic field.

As mentioned, in some cameras the attachment of the magnet was faulty, and it could come loose, messing up the relationship between where the magnet was detected to be, and the ISO visually set. (It has NOT happened with my M10s - but they have been permanently set to Auto-ISO for most of the past seven years, and thus rarely subject to the stress of rotation.)

Leica improved the cement or whatever, and can update an older M10 to the improved dial.

But - yes - it would have to go in for physical servicing. Not sure if Leica USA across the Hudson can do it, or if the camera needs to go to Germany.

What @adan said is exactly correct. I bought a used M10 from Leica Store Miami about 9 months ago and experienced this fault almost immediately. The reps at the store explained it in similar terms as adan. I ended up taking a discount on an M10P instead of waiting for Wetzlar to fix the problem on the M10. As an added benefit, I also got a quieter shutter and level control too. Since then, I tend to leave the ISO dial in M and change ISO thru the menu in order to minimize stress on the dial.

Anyway, it’s a known issue so a round trip to Wetzlar or NJ is in order. The bright side is that you’ll get back a fully inspected and CLA’d camera w a 1 year warranty.

Thank you.  Very helpful responses.  The M10 is my primary camera so I'd hate to part with it for an indefinitely long period of time.  I had a CLA done in February 23.  Wonder if repairing the ISO dial would be covered as addressing a manufacturing issue.  Or would they charge me for it?

Had the same problem with my M10-P when I bought it used a couple of years ago. Fortunately the seller agreed to pay for the repair in Wetzlar. The bad thing is you will have to wait a long time before it is back... And yes you will likely be charged for the repair. Had the same thing with my Q 116 btw, but with the shutter dial. That was fixed on warranty though. Good luck.

  • 2 weeks later...

Same happened to my M10R just a few months after I bought it in 2022. I posted the saga to LUF. Search ISO dial.
BLUF - sent to Leica NJ. About six weeks door to door. Working perfectly these past two years.
