Hi everyone,

I have encoutered a strange fenomenon when shooting long exposures with my previous M11 and now with my M11p. There is light entering the camera from the bayonet and creating glare in the corner of the image. Maybe the M system is not designed for this kind of photography, but then why give them so great long exposure capabilities. In the exemples there is a photo taken with a 21mm 30s exposure and a photo at 50mm and 48s exposure. You will see the glare at the bottom right corner. I saw that if I put my hand over the bayonet the problem was solved, but this is not a fix.  I wanted to know if someone has a better work aroud or if Leica has acknowlege the problem.

It is a vintage lens mount designed in a time that lenses were lighter. A heavy lens will lean into the springs and create a minuscule light leak which becomes manifest during long exposures. Covering the lens mount with something like a scrunchy will resolve the problem. It has been mentioned often before on this forum like James posted above.

Ok, thank you,  I will resolve with somethig like that. Otherwise, I dont think the 21mm lens that a use to be cosidered as a heavy lens.

I shoot quite a few long exposures with ND filters. I have had good success with a heavy duty black rubber band, sized so that it is a tight fit when stretched over the lens mount. My best guess on the sizing of the un-stretched rubber band would be 1.25 inches in diameter and approximately 1/2 inch wide. I keep one in all of my bags and it comes in handy.
