Well, either this site will not let me paste, or this iPad is having an incompatibility issue with this site, but, a decent reference, easy to navigate, is Ken Rockwell dot com. Ken Rockwell’s site is not showing a different product number for Canada and Germany manufacture.

11 819 Black Anodized Aluminum.

11 825 Silvery-Chromed Brass.

There is a Leica Wiki page, affiliated with this forum, but, at least this afternoon, 10th November 2024, I am not seeing the M lens information. The main page is Wiki dot l-camera-forum dot com . No, this iPad will not let me copy and paste this link, either, but Leica Wiki is in the drop-down menu at the top of this page.

The German black variant has the same code number as the Canadian one (11819). Only optical difference is coating and the German variant has a regular focus tab, as opposed to the "tiger paw" focus tab of the Canadian variant. Beware that some Canadian copies have a regular tab too so you may wish to check the "lens made in Germany" engraving here:

thanks for the info.
Do you think there's any serious difference photography wise that justifies outsourcing the German over the Canadian version?

The Canadian variant is said to have plastic parts the German variant got rid of. Aside from that, the German variant has a bit less flare than early Canadian copies, the ones with tiger paw focus tab, due to different coatings apparently. I used to own each of them and kept the German variant but i have no experience with late Canadian copies TBH.
