Hi, I rarely advertise a manufacturer's achievements. But yesterday, Capture One managed to pay off my yearly subscription in 10 minutes with a single new tool. It's a true game-changer. Period.

Match Look is an AI-based tool that takes a user-selected image as a reference and tweaks C1's regular tools so that any image you "grade" with Match Look will resemble the reference image's look as closely as possible. As C1 uses its tools for that and no AI magic, you can change anything after Match Look's take.

I used it to prepare 400+ images for printing a photo book. From 20-year-old phone shots to high-end DNG, the task was to make them printable and bright, with healthy skin tones and slightly cooler shadows. It took 20 seconds, literally. I only had to exclude B&W images from the bulk.

By foot, that would have been a three-hour ordeal, at least.

I also used it for an assignment from last week, documenting a conference. Again, it was a 5-minute job instead of endless copying/pasting and re-tweaking grades of 100+ essential but boring images in unfavourable light and locations, which quickly eats two hours of my lifetime when done conventionally.

However, Match Look does not work with negative scans—too much complexity involved.

Wow!  Are you still finding this useful?

I had C1 for many years and moved away 5 or 7 years ago because of an upgrade issue and the lack of an iPad version. I prefered C1 over LR/PS in almost everyway though.

The match look would be a massive help for me as well.  I find that process tedious in LR.  I would go back or add C1 into my process again...

Wow, this update from Capture One sounds amazing! Being able to match the camera’s look more accurately is such a great feature, especially for those of us who appreciate Leica’s unique rendering. I’d love to hear if anyone has tried it yet—does it really capture the essence of your camera’s style? Sounds like it could be a real game-changer for editing workflows.

I find it to be useful, but not magical.  I use it on location shots by grouping the images so they are in consistant lighting.  I process the first shot to my liking and use it as the reference shot.  The resulting images will often need a bit of tweeking to match the reference shot, but it does speed up the work flow.  I suspect it would do better in the studio.  This is likely a work in progress and performance will improve in subsequent releases.
