A personal favourite focal length for an all-round lens is 40mm. Voigtlander do several good 40s, and there is a newish thread about 40mm lenses in the M lenses section of the forum.

There are no viewfinder framelines for 40mm, I think most 40mm lenses bring up the 50mm lines by default. But framing using M rangefinders is a bit of an arcane art anyway and it probably wouldn't take long to get used to using the 50mm frames to give a very good estimate of what the 40mm lens will give you.

I have the 35 Colour Skopar - bought as I wanted a very small lens to go alongside my 35 Summilux FLE.  Later I got the 35 Nokton MkII multicoated. I have to say, the Nokton is pretty much the one I use all the time now. It’s very small (like the original 35 Summilux), has a nice gentle glow (character!) at f/1.4 and sharpens up well at smaller apertures. It might be the one you’re looking for - definitely worth looking at?

I do really like the Nokton 35 f1.4 v2. It stays on my M9 where the speed is handy. On my M10 I prefer the Summarit-M 35 f2.5. As good as these 2 lenses are I can't justify a Summilux.

After selling the Leica APO Summicron 50mm again as I couldn't justify its cost for the use I make of it, I bought a 50 APO Lanthar recently. I had been put off by reviews saying it's a 'big lens'. Well actually I find it perfect... lovely rendering, sharp and handles well. Highly recommended and must be the very best VFM in M lenses available.

I like the 50/1 Nokton. There is a thread on this site under Lenses. It is a big, heavy lens and it delivers. For the 35mmm I suggest:

Cosina makes a 50mm APO lens that truly rivals Leica’s APO Summicron-M 50mm ASPH, the Voigtlander APO Lanthar 50mm f/2 VM. Because I shoot so much in the harsh sunlight, in southern Texas, the APO Lanthar is, arguably better than its Leica APO rival, for my purposes. I will always favor the Summilux-M 50mm ASPH, but there are times I want to use a more-perfectly-corrected and more-flare-resistant 50mm lens, and the APO Lanthar can do this.

35mm? Well, what do you want a 35mm lens to do? The Voigtlander Color Skopar 35mm f/2.5 II is quite sharp, and very compact. Its compactness makes it worth keeping, for me. I have test-shot a friend’s Voigtlander Nokton 35mm f/1.4 II MC, a lens designed to be much like the pre-aspherical Leica Summiluxes. In my opinion, these are wonderful lenses, which one will not, necessarily, “outgrow.”

Cosina/Voigtlander’s “halo” M-mount lens is the Nokton 50mm f/1.0 Aspherical VM. There are entire thread topics on this lens, in the M Lenses section of this forum, so, I am not going into extensive detail. This one combines the exterior aesthetic of the original f/1.2 Noctilux, with some optical aspects of the later f/1 Noctilux lenses. Again, I favor the Summilux-M 50mm ASPH, but there are times this Nokton has a role that it can play.

So, this is what I got in the end, the 35mmnVoigtländer Ultron f2. I will take it out and take a few pictures to test it before reviewing it. I love how it combines well with the M10.

Very very pleased. Now I need to learn to use this camera! I had a Fujifilm X-Pro 3 but this one is in another level. I was shooting today in the city and already got asked if this was a film camera. I need to love Leica!

I have the Nokton 75mm and find it to be a very well build, solid lens that balances well with the M-10 and is sharp, but not brutally so. I like it, but find I use my 90mm macro more mostly because it is to tiny and I can carry it in my pocket.  Not a lot of help, but I wouldn't hesitate to get the Nokton if that is the focal length you want.
