aficionados Posted October 24, 2024 Share #1 Posted October 24, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) A nice and mint condition summilux 50 v2 was presented to me with a reasonable price. The seller mentioned that this is v2 but in a v1 housing which is silver chrome with scallop aperture ring. Is there a such thing as v2 in v1 house? If yes how did it happen and why? The lens was recently CLA’, very clean no fungus, focusing is spotted on. Is it worth $2200? I’m considering to knock it down to 2000 and then take it
Advertisement Posted October 24, 2024 Posted October 24, 2024 Hi aficionados, Take a look here Summilux 50 v2 in v1 house?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
TomB_tx Posted October 24, 2024 Share #2 Posted October 24, 2024 Yes, the v2 50 Summilux originally used the same housing as the v1. I prefer that early version of the V2, as I love the style. I've looked for one for some time.

aficionados Posted October 24, 2024 Author Share #4 Posted October 24, 2024 (edited) From the serial number it looks like it’s from 1961 production. I have seen the lens in person and played a bit. The overall cosmetic condition is good enough for a 80 years old lens. It comes with original cap and hood. Seller mentioned it’s CLA’ed early this year. However there are two observations I would like your inputs: 1. The aperture ring seems a bit stiff. It’s not stuck feeling but not as smooth as I have experienced with other lenses. This one is definitely more clicky. 2. When the aperture is fully closed to f16 I see a bit discolouring in the central part of the blade. Seller said it’s normal as 80 years old lens the discolouring is from the blades scratch each other. I’m not sure if there is such a thing as blades scratching each other. The seller is kind enough to loan me the lens for free for couple of weeks playing it. If I don’t like it then return it for no cost. If I like it it’s $2200, no way to reduce it. evikne Posted October 24, 2024 Share #5 Posted October 24, 2024 Looks like a beautiful lens, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it. Love the scalloped focus ring! A stiff aperture ring is better than a loose one, which inadvertently changes the setting.
Danner Posted October 24, 2024 Share #6 Posted October 24, 2024 If that lens is 80 years old, then I am much older than I've been telling people, LOL.

Essummi Posted October 25, 2024 Share #8 Posted October 25, 2024 Seems to be an early V2, see https://wiki.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/50mm_f/1.4_Summilux-M_II., and the serial number listed in this article. Beautiful lens.

Yes, there may be scuff marks caused by the blades touching each other. These are completely normal as long as they exist on all blades in about the same spot and there are no deep scratches.
