Pierre68 Posted October 24, 2024 Share #62  Posted October 24, 2024 I didn't read all the post in this thread as every one has its take one the question and in the ent its a personal (intimate) choice. I am lucky enough to have most of the present and past Leica lenses in the M system  but I like to go on my photo outings with one camera and one lens. Lately I Have been using the MATE in daytime and the 35 FLE in nighttime. But If I had to take it down to one SINGLE lens for every situation it would definitely be the 50mm Summilux Asph

I just hated the hood I broke the original hood long time ago. Not using any since then and not experiencing much flare. And when I do, it often adds something to the picture. I like the latest FLE but out of my league in terms of pricing for now.
didier Posted October 26, 2024 Share #64 Â Posted October 26, 2024 I am a one Lens Guy with a stable of ca. 20 lenses I most often choose one lens to go out and stick with it for hours/days, sometimes months. I choose the lens depending on my goal/camera/film/mood. And I very seldom (and less and less) change Lenses in the field. Â
ktmrider2 Posted November 10, 2024 Share #65  Posted November 10, 2024 I go back and forth between 35 and 50 being my favorite focal length.  I will say that in 50 I have fallen hard for the 50f2.8 Elmar II Collapsable.  In black it is the lightest (6 ounce) M mount lens Leica ever made.  I purchased it in February of this year and it lives on the MP.  I know there are 50’s out there up to three stops faster but MP with 50 Elmar II and Ektar 100 has been producing some really nice results.

ktmrider2 Posted November 11, 2024 Share #67 Â Posted November 11, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) All I know about Leica lens weights is what I read. Â And I read some article saying the black 50f2.8 Elmar II in aluminum was the lightest lens Leica ever made. Â Maybe the lightest 50 ever made? Â Who knows and who cares! erl Posted November 11, 2024 Share #68  Posted November 11, 2024 Correct! Who cares. I want to know which one makes the best pictures, not its weight.
lct Posted November 11, 2024 Share #69 Â Posted November 11, 2024 (edited) Who cares? I do, lightness is one of the main reasons why i prefer M lenses. Edited November 11, 2024 by lct
erl Posted November 11, 2024 Share #70  Posted November 11, 2024 Hmm. It seems that the lighter the lens, the less light it can transmit. So, is it lighter, or darker?
lct Posted November 11, 2024 Share #71 Â Posted November 11, 2024 My bad English? Lighter i mean less heavy. Or you're pulling my leg? I don't mind at all but indeed i'm after lighter (less heavy) lenses since i'm interested in photography in the seventies.

I do agree with you on the virtues of M lenses and I have many. However, I would rate one of their advantages as significant compactness, rather than lightness. My limited experience with other brands, such as Nikon, would indicate that Leica are not overly light, simply because thay have no plastic components, but are all metal and glass, which I applaud. Whatever reasons one chooses, it will direct a choice of Leica in my experience.
