F456 Posted October 6, 2024 Share #1 Posted October 6, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Not the most exciting topic but I could do with some clarification regarding certain combinations of lens versions and appropriate hoods. I have a 12504 metal 2-part unscrewable clip-on hood that came with my Summilux 35mm 11870 lens bought new in 1992. You unscrew it to insert Series VII filters. So far so good... It also has inscribed on the hood however that it is suitable for 1:2/35 (as well as the 1:1.4 that I have described just above). Question 1: which version Summicron 35mm was it supplied with? I imagine but don't know for sure that the 'dinky but effective' (courtesy Brian Bower) rectangular plastic hood 12524 was introduced at the same time as Summicron v4 11310. Does that mean that the 12504 hood was supplied only up to the end of v3 as far as Summicrons are concerned? I know it stayed as the supplied hood for the Summilux till the 46mm diameter aspherics took over. I also have a 12538 plastic clip-on hood that came with my Summicron 50mm v4 11819. However, I also have from separate accessory purchases several 12585 metal lens hoods for 1:2/50 Question 2: which version(s) of Summicron 50mm was the 12585 hood supplied with? And one of those 12585 hoods is designated actually as 12585 H and has the front shade part in a dark grey metallic colour next to the black of the mounting / clip-on ring — any ideas why or for which camera? Finally, these 12585 hoods also have marked that they are suitable for 1:2/35 as well as various slower lenses, so: Question 3: which 35mm lenses and versions are the 12585 hoods matched up with? Thank you if you got this far!

TomB_tx Posted October 6, 2024 Share #2 Posted October 6, 2024 When I bought my 35 (v2) & 50 (v3) Summicrons in 1969 they were supplied without hoods - you had to order hoods separately as accessories. I did get 12585 and 12504 hoods for them at that time.
