Probably a dumb question sorry, and missing the purpose, why would you want to use the Q hood instead of the new one on the 43 ?

Thanks 😀

That is a very valid question. The new lens hood is actually a bit shorter so that the size of the whole camera stays almost the same.

I’m guessing that if you can find a filter with the same thread size as the Q43 hood, you could knock out the glass and use it as a spacer between the lens and hood. Similarly, as done on all versions of the X100, knock out the glass from the filter and reverse fit it as a spacer. Don’t know if pushing the lens hood out a few mm would introduce vignetting though.

I don’t know how you did it, but if the workaround involves adding rubber bands to the thread mount, then the weather resistance might be voided 😬

Because of what I shoot I need the protection of a filter and lens hood. I also need macro mode to work at anytime

Anyone know what filter size might work for this?

I appreciate your presentation of a work-around to this problem, although I won't be able to apply it. Thank you!

But can I just proclaim how really s---ty this camera's design detail is? A $7,000 camera...and nobody in the German braintrust considered this issue before manufacturing started?  And their "solution" is to (a) declare this is normal and, (b) offer a $245 accessory hood for those who might want to fully use the damn camera's lens with a protective filter?  I am absolutely seething.  And you all should be, too.

Thank you.  Carry on, gents.  /rant

The round hood doesn't really do much in the rain.  Even the new hood design doesn't protect the front element from rain like the original Q hood.  I'm still dumbfounded that Leica chose to keep the hood short by a few millimeters to keep the camera the same dimensions as the original Q (was anyone asking for this?) and not making it fully functional.

Wonderful! There should be some red faced staff walking around at Leica. All this money for the camera, no charger in the box and you have to fix it with tape! Wow..
