Advertisement Posted October 2, 2024 Posted October 2, 2024 Hi mrlouie, Take a look here Q3 lens hood working on Q3 43. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Minigill Posted October 2, 2024 Share #2 Posted October 2, 2024 Probably a dumb question sorry, and missing the purpose, why would you want to use the Q hood instead of the new one on the 43 ? Thanks 😀

Thanks 😀 That is a very valid question. The new lens hood is actually a bit shorter so that the size of the whole camera stays almost the same.
69xchange Posted October 2, 2024 Share #4 Posted October 2, 2024 Did you add rubber gaskets/o-rings to the threads?
Carrot Posted October 2, 2024 Share #5 Posted October 2, 2024 I’m guessing that if you can find a filter with the same thread size as the Q43 hood, you could knock out the glass and use it as a spacer between the lens and hood. Similarly, as done on all versions of the X100, knock out the glass from the filter and reverse fit it as a spacer. Don’t know if pushing the lens hood out a few mm would introduce vignetting though. nussbusch Posted October 2, 2024 Share #12 Posted October 2, 2024 Your Q3 23 hood solution also allows for the use of the great otec Q-cap which you cannot mount on the Q3 43 hood because of the inner extra baffle. Thanks!

SrMi Posted October 2, 2024 Share #14 Posted October 2, 2024 I think it is a bad idea to use a hood designed for 28mm on a 43mm lens.

nussbusch Posted October 2, 2024 Share #16 Posted October 2, 2024 Its a very good idea! Still plenty of protection and better in the filter and Q-cap aspect. The other way round would lead to vignetting.
KenTanaka Posted October 2, 2024 Share #17 Posted October 2, 2024 I appreciate your presentation of a work-around to this problem, although I won't be able to apply it. Thank you! But can I just proclaim how really s---ty this camera's design detail is? A $7,000 camera...and nobody in the German braintrust considered this issue before manufacturing started? And their "solution" is to (a) declare this is normal and, (b) offer a $245 accessory hood for those who might want to fully use the damn camera's lens with a protective filter? I am absolutely seething. And you all should be, too. Thank you. Carry on, gents. /rant

Even the new hood design doesn't protect the front element from rain like the original Q hood. I'm still dumbfounded that Leica chose to keep the hood short by a few millimeters to keep the camera the same dimensions as the original Q (was anyone asking for this?) and not making it fully functional.

There should be some red faced staff walking around at Leica. All this money for the camera, no charger in the box and you have to fix it with tape!
