MikeD70 Posted September 29, 2024 Share #1 Posted September 29, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Maybe it's just me, but does anyone else see some different looks to the photos posted so far from the new Q3/43? If I've kept up, there are no other changes or upgrades to the new camera, except for the lens. If true, I can't figure out the difference I'm seeing in these samples. Maybe processor upgrades, firmware tweaks? Maybe my 75 year old eyes? I like my 28, and the view of the world it renders, not really interested in a 15 mm gain/loss in coverage, but I am interested in the overall look I see in the images. I'm sure someone with a more scientific view of things photographic will eventually solve this one. In the meantime, keep those great looking '43 shots coming. Great stuff! Advertisement Posted September 29, 2024 Posted September 29, 2024 Hi MikeD70, Take a look here Q3/43 other changes?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
egrossman Posted September 29, 2024 Share #2 Posted September 29, 2024 The difference in looks between the 28 and the 43 are largely down to Summilux vs APO lens. Completely different rendering styles. There may have been firmware tweaks but nothing I have noticed so far. Erik 3

This video (16 min. 23 sec.) is a good introduction to the Q3 43. Yes: very useful comparison with the Q3 28 experience, which would act as a pointer for many. Very 'straight' presentation unlike the sometimes irritating comedy duo effect at a US Leica site.

With my M11, I had a 35mm APO and a 50mm Summilux for this exact reason.

I noticed it right away. And it’s more than a tonal or color difference. Very pleasing dng files that look great even before editing. It is probably the APO summicron lens and its micro contrast qualities. But something in my gut tells me there was sensor magic tweaking done due this lens that makes the images ever so slightly improved vs the other Leica cameras that employ the same sensor. I don't know about that. With the APO Summicron-SL lenses on the SL3 the rendering is similar and different from using the Summilux-SL. Even on the SL2-S, using the APO SL lenses gave the impression that the images were taken with a much higher resolution sensor. ...and don't get me started on how high contrast black and white conversions border on hyper reality when taken with the APO lenses.
otto.f Posted October 2, 2024 Share #9 Posted October 2, 2024 Isn’t this just the combination of IBIS and APO? For me it’s too much though, results in very digital, clinical images. From what I’ve seen thus far here, did not try it out in practice yet.

Besides the new lens, is there anything different, so substantially different that a human eye (that of a typical middle aged affluent Leica user) could notice it?
