stephengv Posted September 15, 2024 Share #1 Posted September 15, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) I recently bought the 35 Summilux Steel Rim reissue. I notice that my M 240 cannot read the 6 bit code of the Steel Rim. Anyone experienced the same? I am left with manually selecting the lens (the original steel rim) in the lens profile. Advertisement Posted September 15, 2024 Posted September 15, 2024 Hi stephengv, Take a look here M240 cannot detect the "Steel RIM". I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
lct Posted September 15, 2024 Share #2 Posted September 15, 2024 (edited) The last M240 firmware was 2.1.0.0 dated 30/10/2019. Since then, there have been 3 new codes IINW (35/1.4 reissue, 35/2 apo, 90/1.5). Not sure Leica will issue a new firmware for 3 lenses on a discontinued camera but all hope is not lost if Leica reads this forum. stephengv Posted September 17, 2024 Author Share #4 Posted September 17, 2024 Do you think its possible to have a firmware update? does the M9 have firmware updates as of the last update of the M240?

The last M9 firmware is from 2017 AFAIK vs 2019 for the M240. I would ask Leica for a fimware update, there is no harm to try. Otherwise you may wish to select the "35 f/1.4 11869/11870/11860" lens profile in the lens detection menu. As long as you don't use another manual code, the camera will keep this lens profile in memory.

Only a honest and realistic view, but IMHO highly unlikely. There are two benefits to coded lenses. First is lens based adjustments in camera, which are irrelevant with RAW capture as only effect jpegs and then only for ultra wide lenses (24 - 18), and EXIF data. The latter is very useful, but you can select a proxy to use from the in camera list of lenses.

EdelStahl Posted November 21, 2024 Share #8 Posted November 21, 2024 My M 240 does not recognize the code for the 75mm f2.5 11645 101101. This lens also does not appear in the list for manually setting lens identification. The next closest option is the 75mm Summicron 2.0 ASPH 11637.

A lens that was produced with a 6 bit code is not listed in the menu of choices for manual selection.

Check both the lens's 6-bit marking dots, and the camera's glass 6-bit detector panel on its lens mount, for acquired dirt or grime. Either of which can easily mess with the reflected infrared light the camera uses to read the lens markings, and produce nonsense coding readings, which the camera will then ignore. A wipe-down with a microfiber cloth may be all they need to resume correct function. It is also possible that one of the IR-emitting-LEDs in your M typ240 lens detector (a camera now 3 generations, and at least 8 years, old) has burnt out, but grunge on either of the lens mounts is a more likely problem.
lct Posted November 21, 2024 Share #11 Posted November 21, 2024 The Summarit 75/2.5 is listed in neither M240 nor M11 manual detection lists AFAIK. To get this privilege 😉 you must have a Summilux 75/1.4 or a Summicron 75/2 apparently. It is less expensive to pen code a good Nokton 75/1.5 or Ultron 75/1.9 IMHO. Happy snaps 🙂
jaapv Posted November 21, 2024 Share #12 Posted November 21, 2024 Given that the lens was released in 2007 and all examples are coded, it will not be listed in the manual recognition list, but it must be recognized by the camera. If not, check that the coding is correct (maybe someone fiddled with the dots), that the paint is clean and undamaged, that the window on the mount is clean and undamaged and that the framelines are displayed correctly. If all that is in order it may be that one of the sensors in the mount is defect.
