D-Day veteran George Chandler was 19 years old, when he was on a motor torpedo boat protecting the ships landing at Omaha and Utah on 6 June 1944. He witnessed the horror of the first wave Omaha landings, as the American Rangers landed. At Goodwood this year, the Duke of Richmond invited him and another veteran John Bennett to attend the Revival as his guests of honour, 80 years after the D-Day landings. The Duke spoke eloquently and solemnly about the bravery and sacrifice of all the young men, as the Allies landed in Normandy.

George Chandler listened intently and then had his own personal moment of Remembrance. We should all be thankful to him, John Bennett and all the Allied Forces who helped to secure freedom for all of us.

They shall never grow old.
