Dear M9,

today is the day - 15 years ago a new era in the digital M world started with your birth.

You were born as the world's first mirrorless full frame camera and more than a decade later you are THE true classic in the digital lineup of Leica´s.

Happy birthday M9!

Not me, sorry. Love affair died a few months ago. My M9-P was mint. 36,000 shutter clicks. Newest (best) replacement sensor. I could not stomach the slow (filled) buffer anymore. I sold it to finance an M10-R. I do miss it. I may regret, I know.
Good luck to you both.
Mark

Still loving my 4 although one ( the one on the left) now will only really work in warmer weather the shutter struggles to cock in cold weather

The M9 remains my 'go to' carry around camera. I have two but my 'spare' has had hardly any use for several years. It is a 'classic' as far as I am concerned and has seen off other, more advanced digital cameras during my ownership of it.

Still loving mine. Don’t see any reason to upgrade yet.

Hello Mark,

sorry to hear that. But with the M10-R you have without a doubt a technically more modern camera. Have fun with this great camera!

Used an M9 back in 2011 for a short time and admired it, but decided to wait for the M(240). Did'nt like that (sold after 3 months again).

This year the old love flared up again and an M9 with a replaced, corrosion-free sensor found its way to me. Although my Sony A1 with GM lenses is technically so much better in every aspect, I still love shooting the M9 because of the unique colors and it's classic shutter sound.

Together with a 75mm Noctilux, it delivers portraits that are in a class of their own.

(The red dot that was so ugly painted over by the previous owner has now been replaced by a new one)

Happy Birthday, dear M9!

What a nice way to describe the quite noisy M9 shutter sound! This is the only thing I sort of dislike a bit with my M9. I guess "classic" could mean a similarity to:

What you show us, is a winder sound, not a shutter sound. But anyway, it all depends on personal preference.

Yes, that's right. What I meant was that the complete M9 shutter sound, including both shutter release and shutter re-cocking, resembles more that of a film Leica with the Winder M than a film Leica that is wound manually. I know that the M9 can be set to Discreet mode in order to postpone re-cocking, but it will still happen eventually. And you are of course correct regarding personal preferences.

Together with classic lenses (my latest acquisition), it's still a beauty that inspires me to take photos - not only with, also OF the camera.
