Hi there,

I have photo insurance with Photoguard, I'm currently paying £27 per month for around £7000 (seems a lot but in fact its a MP, M8, 50 lux and a 35 summaron ) of equipment, insured in UK, Europe and 30 days worldwide ( could be sort of less than that if I insured to UK only, but I do travel a lot and this gives me peace of mind )

My question is : do you insure your camera ? If so and did anything happen to you they replaced it ? I dont know much about photoguard, they somewhat seem dodgy - they insure everything from dogs to cameras and everything in between.

I would like to know if anyone had or has photographic insurance, got they stuff stolen and the claim went through no hassles.

Thank you ! And merry xmas

Try Aaduki,

Aaduki home page

I am insured with them and they appear to be very reasonable, however as far as claiming for a loss then i'm afraid i cannot comment on that as i have not and hope that i never have to.

Regards

Eric

All the best to you too.

I live in the Netherlands. I pay similar money for similar coverage.

I lost everything once, and had no trouble getting paid out. The 10% depreciation per year is a bummer though.

I have been with Photoguard for a couple of years and they seem very reasonable. Not had to claim yet, though... fortunately.

I have my M kit insured through the people that advertise through a slip in sheet in all the UK photo mags - their name escapes me now.

I added all my camera gear to my home contents policy to cover 'all risks' worldwide. This covers theft, loss, damage etc to named cameras and lenses. It added about £140 per annum to my policy

However, if anyone on the forum has information that this may not be the best way to insure gear please let me know

Cheers, Tony

I also use Aaduki - they cover me for 3rd Party (essential if you do work which involves direct contact with people) + around £12000 worth of kit (covers the Leica + Canon stuff I use). It costs around £700 a year. I had to claim for an M8 + 28 cron asph + 75 summilux three years ago - they were courteous, prompt and gave me full NEW market price replacement. I was allowed to get the 75 cron asph as the 75 lux was discontinued. I'd recommend.

There are a few I am a private member of the "Fotobond" (25 Euro per year) and have their collective insurance with Generali through Smeink Assurantien. I found them very good to deal with when claiming.

For hobbyst John Lewis Insurance, fairly standard cover for the household but very flexible on valuable personal possessions at home and away.

I included personal possessions away from home (covers overseas for up to 60 days), limit of £15K, excess £200, single item valued up to £5K, monthly premium £24 (contents insurance only).

Enquired few months ago with the insurer about adding single item costing £5.4K (aka M9-P), this would add about £2.5 to the monthly premium.
