Advertisement Posted December 20, 2007 Posted December 20, 2007 Hi george +, Take a look here how to upgrade to Capture 4 ?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!

Once I went back to that it worked as it should.  I am impressed with their fast response. Very professional.  I agree that Phase One's help people seem very responsive. I thought I was being picky when I did not like C1-4's beta versions. I don't like the finished version either. What is going on with the file management or in C1-4's case - file mismanagement? It is totally chaotic and not helped by poor documentation and help system. C1-3.7.7 was just fine on the file side - you knew where they all were/are in the session folder. I also don't like the dark grey interface and the tiny buttons. I for one will be sticking to 3.7.7. All in all rather disappointing. I really like C1 and its ability to choose profiles but this makes me think of having another look at Aperture.  Wilson
chris_livsey Posted December 21, 2007 Share #23 Â Posted December 21, 2007 Â I am impressed with their fast response. Very professional. Â I have always had a very fast, and more important accurate and helpful, response from posting in the forum groups. The last one was picked up by a staff member from New York they seem to fight to be first in with an answer. Still not keen on V4 though. In its favour it is so new not overwriting 3.7x leaves the options open without uninstalling. I'd rather be taking photographs than learning new software. jaapv Posted December 21, 2007 Share #24 Â Posted December 21, 2007 I must admit I have not had time yet to mail them yet, but my version of C1-4 refuses to start up from the icon, it just generates a crash report. There has been no response from PhaseOne to the crash-reports....

I have seen similar reports on there forum and PO's answer is IT's YOUR COMPUTER THAT IS MESSED UP, NOT OUR PROGRAM. Yeah right!!!! Â Good luck. jaapv Posted December 21, 2007 Share #26 Â Posted December 21, 2007 No- it is XP pro, and well, all other programs are fine. Guess I'll stick with ACR-CS3 and/or Bibble.... Funny thing is, it will start up from the install window - once.

I found that if I deleted 'session.ses' from 'Capture one default session' then everything was ok for V4 beta on Mac OSX - 'session.ses' is a V4 file, 'default.session' being the session file for V3. scott kirkpatrick Posted December 21, 2007 Share #28  Posted December 21, 2007 I'm gotten the 3.7.7 Pro interface pretty well burned into my cortex now, so I view 4.0 as optional. I'm delighted to see that they managed to push through an E-3 profile in time for release -- it takes them a little longer than Adobe and the others because they do a genuine camera-specific icc profile for each new model. Once I find that, I can sneak it back into 3.7.7, where it is likely to also work. (if this is successful, will report over at Guy's forum in the 4/3 list.)  Ed, we hear your pain. I've lost count of the number of times that you have told everyone that C1V4 is a "POS." Open a tall cold one and take a break now. Take pitchers or something. Personally, I think Phase was in a desperate rush to ship something by year end, and didn't really listen to feature comments during their beta but only fixed crash bugs, and not all of those. They have iterated on quality issues with good results in the past and third party profiles will be possible. I can wait.  scott
Guest guy_mancuso Posted December 21, 2007 Share #29 Â Posted December 21, 2007 To me it lost the workflow of 3.7. I just can't go fast now. I did start a little comparision with LR. Funny thing is, it will start up from the install window - once.   Jaap:  I wouldn't be surpised if the recent portage to the .NET Framework has to do with it. DXO did the same for Optics Pro V5 and that has created no end of trouble. See the DXO forums. For me I cannot get .NET-V3 nor DXO-V5 nor C14 installed at all on one PC and they all run trouble free on my laptop. The very slow start though is a give away for those .NET programs IMHO.  That said, I like C14. The file handling is dodgy, but that was my pet peeve for C1.3.7.7 as well. And I experience some crashes, always followed by a polite message that the program unexpectedly stopped working  The shadow/highlight handling is good though, as is the sharpening. Any scale down to this forum's 960px wide websize would not do it justice, but I am quite pleased with what I see. And the trusty old JHR profiles work great, once you rename them to C14's new file naming system.
wparsonsgisnet Posted December 21, 2007 Share #32 Â Posted December 21, 2007 I posted in Guy's thread on DPI and will repeat some here. Â I happen to like the veta version if C1-LE -- the extra file directories aside, but they're a mosquito. Â I like having all the controls available and now very rarely use PS. I can crop, adjust, and save (all in RAW, of courrse), then print in Image Print. Â I did a shoot a week ago, 1k shots. I did all the processing in the beta-2, viewed all 1k shots, selected 150 of them, messed with them, and saved them as jpeg's for the client. This took 4 hours of clock time and that seems fair. I, too, got crashes: about 6 during the 4-hour processing time. Â I'm waiting till the beta expires before spending my upgrade chit, tho. Â I also posted them on Ofoto (or whatever Kodak calls it now) for the members of the cast in the show. That's another nice web process. I used to spend lots and lots of *hours* taking requests for prints, selecting and annotating negatives, going to the printer (2 of this, etc.), sorting, delivering, and replacing the damn negs. Now, I upload, send a link to the dancers (in this case), and they order what they want, pay Kodak, and get stuff in the mail. I'm out of the business. What a blessing. Guest V64 Posted December 21, 2007 Share #34 Â Posted December 21, 2007 On the chance of sounding stupid- where do I find "capture one default session"? Â Not at all - 'session.ses' is unique - do a Spotlight search and it should be found in your 'Capture One Default Session' folder (mine is in ~/Pictures/, but that is only because that is where I set the 'Session Document Path' in C1 Preferences). Â Happy Hunting
