Dr. G Posted September 2, 2024 Share #1 Posted September 2, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) The S9 was never a camera I really considered. No mechanical shutter, no EVF, etc. With the possibility of a Q with a 43mm lens on the horizon I’ve been thinking differently about the S9. The majority of my images are taken in the 35-50mm range. I’ve had almost every iteration of the Q and always found the 28mm lens tough to work with - either cropping to my preferred focal length or wishing it was a little wider. I have the 21 APO SL for my SL3 and love it. I think a 21/43 travel kit would be great, especially since the APO lenses, when I used them on the SL2-S gave me images that looked like they were taken with a much higher resolution camera. I usually only use my wide angle for scenic shots, architecture, monuments, etc. where an EVF (for me) isn’t as important. I’d rather not take the SL3 if a good, smaller body is an alternative. has anyone tried any of the APO SL lenses with the S9? I’m thinking it could easily fit with a Q body in a relatively small bag and be a great travel/EDC kit.
Advertisement Posted September 2, 2024 Posted September 2, 2024 Hi Dr. G, Take a look here S9?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
LocalHero1953 Posted September 2, 2024 Share #2 Posted September 2, 2024 (edited) Not the S9, but the Sigma fp; the lesson I learned is that I want a built in viewfinder in a stills camera. It's different with a video camera. Apo SL lenses felt very big on it, though they performed fine. satijntje Posted September 22, 2024 Share #3 Posted September 22, 2024 The S9 with 2 compact Panasonic lenses is a perfect add on to a Hasselblad X2D with28mm XCD lens. IMO, this is all you need: low light shooting with the Panasonic 50mm f1.8; teleshooting with the new compact Panasonic 28-200mm; + the XCD28p wide angle lens with the 100MP Hasselblad X2D for landscapes giving the best IQ of all. This fits all in a medium size bag

There are situations where iPhone’s IQ is close, especially when viewed on small screen and the light is good. There are situations where iPhone’s IQ is sufficient. satijntje Posted September 24, 2024 Share #9 Posted September 24, 2024 Both are made in China. This is not a real Leica for me…….
dsalamena Posted September 24, 2024 Share #10 Posted September 24, 2024 I use the S9 as a temporary substitute for my CL camera that I sold some time ago in the hope for a compact SL camera. I use the S9 with the 20-60 Panasonic full frame lens for most of my pictures and when I need a tele with the TL 55-135 or 35 and 60 prime lenses. Image quality even cropped is very good and the camera-lens system is still quite compact and light. I definitely miss the viewfinder. Image stabilization and noise control at high ISO are making me want to keep the camera as long as I don’t find a better and compact solution. mokona Posted September 24, 2024 Share #11 Posted September 24, 2024 Also got an S9 to substitute a CL that I sold. Really like the S9 but thinking of getting another CL for the EVF and the aps-crop.
SrMi Posted September 29, 2024 Share #12 Posted September 29, 2024 There is no substitute for CL :). 1
Cronilux Posted October 11, 2024 Share #13 Posted October 11, 2024 I bought an S9 out of pure curiosity and because of the form factor. I really love it as an everyday camera. I use it with the SL 35/2 Summicron or the lightweight Lumix 24/1.8 and 50/1.8. The AF tracking with continuous shooting is way better than the one on my SL2-S. I enjoy the real time LUTs and can use the in camera JPEGs right away pretty often this way. The only thing I wished would be, that the screen should habe been a tilt screen instead of a flip out screen, so the form factor would stay as small as possible when shooting low or high angles.
keeping_a_balance Posted February 26 Share #14 Posted February 26 In the Sigma BF thread someone wanted a comparison with this camera... it's the first thing I jumped to as there are a lot of similar features, but I think the Sigma will take the prize when it comes to menu. I have never touched a panasonic camera, but reading on the forum in general I get the feeling they are not great. Can anyone comment on the S9 menu vs say newer sony menus vs leica... Also anyone have experience with this camera and Sigma iseries primes (I assume they would be fine, just have not seen comments on these yet in this thread). carlosgavina Posted March 6 Share #15 Posted March 6 (edited) I had the S5II X, and I sold it as I've never got used to the ergonomics, button layout and the endless menus. Its the reason I skipped the S9. Will Leica perhaps have its own "S9" (QL?) in the future? Edited March 6 by carlosgavina
mokona Posted March 6 Share #16 Posted March 6 S9 and sigma 65mm f2 is a great combo. For the menus, the only item I need is the ISO which has direct button access.
