Virob Posted August 31, 2024 Share #1 Posted August 31, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Curious if anyone is using this with their SL camera and lens. I am considering this for multiple day hikes in the mountains either attached to the shoulder strap or hip belt and unsure how practical it would be considering the weight of the camera/lens system. I have this and have used it with big camera and lens systems and it works really well. I hike a loooot. And it's a godsend. But of course follow official guidelines on payload etc.
Ken Abrahams Posted August 31, 2024 Share #3 Posted August 31, 2024 (edited) Just purchased the Peak strap system although I have several rope straps and they are great too. I was having trouble with one rope strap unraveling at the nylon strap ends. Luckily on both occasions the camera was on my table at the time but I had to do something about it. The Peak strap is long and I now have attachment lugs on two cameras. I later discovered after rewatching videos that I was looping one of the nylon cooph like straps the wrong way 🤓🤔 so all is good now I have a very nice strap adjustable with easy slide actions and longer than any rope strap. Gateway77 Posted August 31, 2024 Share #4 Posted August 31, 2024 I use this on my ruck sack waist belt. Then, I also attach a wrist strap or similar to the camera - and then to a carabineer on my ruck sack shoulder strap. That way I can quickly release the camera - lift to eye level easily and have the extra security of a secondary attachment. - works well for me. I used it on the shoulder strap of a backpack, so it was just below my left shoulder. With a CL it was fine. A M240 was too heavy for comfort - it felt a bit unwieldy. I would expect it to be much too heavy and uncomfortable for a SL, even with a M lens. It might work better on a belt, though I never tried it there. Boojay Posted August 31, 2024 Share #6 Posted August 31, 2024 They work fine on a belt, sometimes better with the addition of the peak design pro-pad. Smaller combinations of body and lens are ok for me on a backpack strap too.
FlashGordonPhotography Posted August 31, 2024 Share #7 Posted August 31, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just spent a month with a capture clip including short hikes (3=4 hoursmax). No problems for me with a SL3 and Panasonic 24-105. I don't think I'd want to go much heavier than that. I did use the pro pad as well which really helps with comfort. Guest Posted August 31, 2024 Share #8 Posted August 31, 2024 I tried the Capture Clip and didn’t like it. At times it was cumbersome to get the camera in and out and the camera flopped around too much. Personally I think it’s gimmicky. You’d be much happier with the Spider Holster Belt System which is available with the newer SpiderPro Clamp v2 but you’ll need an arca-swiss dovetail plate if you don’t already have one. If not then Wimberley makes a nice universal dovetail plate, the P-5 .
LocalHero1953 Posted August 31, 2024 Share #9 Posted August 31, 2024 To explain why I didn’t use the CC on a belt, and didn’t want it there. I mostly used it for hiking in the UK, where it may be cold and/or wet, and opening/closing or adding/removing a jacket is common. If it was on a trouser belt then it could end up inaccessibly under the jacket. If it was on a backpack waist strap then it would swing loose dangerously when I release the strap to zip or unzip the jacket. It is easier to control when on the shoulder strap. None of this is to argue with those who make the clip work on a belt, just to suggest it is worth considering your use case (climate, expedition type, clothing etc) before deciding. Virob Posted September 1, 2024 Author Share #10 Posted September 1, 2024 Thanks everyone. I’m getting a mostly positive vibes with some caveats. I might be able to borrow one to test. @TwentyEighthParallel, the spider holster is a new one for me, I’ll take a closer look. Thanks.

AdjusterBrett Posted September 3, 2024 Share #12 Posted September 3, 2024 Have two - both mounted on sling packs. Sometimes TL2, sometimes SL (port anchor), often S1 (Starboard Anchor). Never a problem. In the olden (less wise days) when I had the Sig 105/1.4 mounted on the S1 (well above weight - and me with the idea I'll just lug this thing around) - it was a bit much - was not worried it would fall off - was worried it would swing about in cadence and come back and KNOCK ME OUT. Any of them with the 100-400 (which is LIGHT) starts to sway a bit. With the 'larger' loads you just have to find the happy spot (move it around and adjust your gate).
Apparitus Posted September 4, 2024 Share #13 Posted September 4, 2024 I frequently use it attached to the shoulder strap of my backpack, either for lightweight hikes, or wild camping trips (carrying 20 kgs of equipment). I use it with my SL601 and 20-60. No issues, it is very stable and far less fatiguing than using a normal camera strap.
Leicaboy Norway Posted September 6, 2024 Share #14 Posted September 6, 2024 The clip is great and will carry a lot, but carrying the sl2 for a 3-4 hour mountain hike like today, is exhausting. Exhausting carrying it in a strap around your neck or on the clip. But works fine for a one hour hike or so in less wild areas, which is all of UK for example 😂 But carrying the Leica q on the clip on the backpack strap is no worry, even for hour after hour
redrocksjoe Posted September 9, 2024 Share #15 Posted September 9, 2024 I have tried it two times now and it just doesn't work for me. It bounces around too much. I like the side loading packs like the ones EVOC makes instead. Just my experience.
jaapv Posted September 9, 2024 Share #16 Posted September 9, 2024 I think it is great. I wear the strap of the camera diagonally and the clip on my belt using the pad takes much of the weight. Being supported at three points makes the carrying stable. ASL, Sigma 70-200 using the lens Arca foot The only downside is that the locking button is a bit fiddly
Stephen.s1 Posted September 9, 2024 Share #17 Posted September 9, 2024 From MF3 to Fuji 100s... 9 cameras (3 Leicas)all with their own Peak clips. Never a problem. They seem to work easier as they age.
jaapv Posted September 10, 2024 Share #18 Posted September 10, 2024 I removed the lock. There is a little hole on the back, using a 1.5 mm screwdriver you can remove the locking pin and button.

To use on a belt one needs the belt pad, sold separately.
