So what do we have for the 70th anniversary of the M3?  An M11-D that blinked and ghosted us?

Any idea what the actual celebration could be and what could be unveiled there?

What do you want to see?

For me, the Edition 60 unveiled in 2014 was the Pole Star.  So I'm not crazy about the M11-D.  Given the occasional blowout we need that screen.  Also so late in the cycle that an M12 is more attractive than a huge price difference between a perfectly fine P and a D.

What else?

Whatever will be offered, it will be extremly overpriced, only for collectors and without any new and necessary item.

Perhaps a red M 11 1/2-P limited edition, with a red Rolls Royce to transport it in - limited to 500,000 sets worldwide and priced at 500,000.

A can of M-11 anti-freezing spray would be included to sweeten the deal.

I want to see that they start a communication around their jubilee. But to be fair communication around the M60 started mid September 2014.

I just wonder what Leica’s marketing thoughts were when they looked at the calendar in 2013 and again in 2023…?

1st quarter – too early to celebrate something
2nd quarter – almost perfect but leans into summer holidays
3rd quarter – summer holidays in full swing especially at Wetzlar
4th quarter – last chance, but therefore close to Christmas sales

The year is winding down. Has there really not even been any word of an event? Is there a historical date in the fall Leica might try to align with?

The 1st of September is the 85th anniversary of the beginning of the WW2, mostly shot with Leicas on all sides, including the famous Evgeni Khaldei’s photo of the Red Banner over the Reichstag…

...and subsequently the early use of 'AI' to remove one of the wristwatches to avoid suggestion of stealing from the dead.
