Advertisement Posted August 28, 2006 Posted August 28, 2006 Hi earleygallery, Take a look here Want to know what the M8 looks like?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
albertwang Posted August 28, 2006 Share #82 Posted August 28, 2006 It's fake for sure. Someone couldn't have broken the NDA.
marknorton Posted August 28, 2006 Share #83 Posted August 28, 2006 How many people still use flash sockets for anything other than studio work? If they do, they could buy a hot shoe adapter...
adan Posted August 28, 2006 Share #84 Posted August 28, 2006 For all we know, Leica could be introducing a full multi-flash system based on triggering and metering via a new flash with slave capabilities - a "28D" or "32D" (I skip "30D" to avoid confusion with the Canon camera). or simply a shoe-mount adapter, as Mark says, perhaps with its own voltage protector so that folks can't fry the M8 circuitry with a 2000-watt studio strobe. geoff Posted August 29, 2006 Share #85 Posted August 29, 2006 I can't beleive that no one has pointed out the obvious lack of a flash socket! Well I brought this up originally in another post. http://www.leica-camera-user.com/digital-forum/4084-m8-body.html I use a manual hand-held flash which I connect to my Digilux 2 with a Wein HSHSB adapter but, for the M8, I wish I could do without it, especially sense I intend to have the flash shoe already occupied with a viewfinder. I think this would be a very valid reason for including a flash sync socket on the M8.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted August 29, 2006 Share #86 Posted August 29, 2006 i did bring up the PC outlet on page 5 . If it is not there than this photo is a fake. Leica will NOT leave that off the body. I quote myself Firewire should be on left side of camera and only on left side. if you don't see it than this is not real. No OEM will ever put that anywhere else but there. battery and card can and probably do come from the bottom and maybe share the same door. Is there a PC outlet again that would be only on left side and most likely next to lens. these two things are almost never ever anywhere else __ Guy Mancuso http://www.guymancusophoto.com

Guest leica_mage Posted August 29, 2006 Share #88 Posted August 29, 2006 A quote from that famous movie. Frankly my dear I don't give a damn End of story. He pauses slightly after 'dear', so it's really: 'Frankly my dear, Idon't give a damn.'

Guest leica_mage Posted August 29, 2006 Share #90 Posted August 29, 2006 Frankly my dear, he did not make a pause I'll check it! But I'll have to get the DVD - I've steadily refused to for years because I hate this film with a vengeance!! It's like what you and our friend Gérard made me do a week ago: went out and bought my first Duchâble recordings (I have about 6,500 records and CDs and not one Duchâble recording, until last week!) just because I value you chaps' opinions. I'll be reporting on that soon... LCT, if he does pause... you're paying for the DVD!
erl Posted August 29, 2006 Share #91 Posted August 29, 2006 Not sure about the paause, but I always considered he put the emphasis on the wrong word. ie. 'give' instead of 'damn'.

stunsworth Posted August 29, 2006 Share #93 Posted August 29, 2006 Erl, wasn't that on account of the censors not wanting the emphasis on 'damn'?

Guest leica_mage Posted August 29, 2006 Share #95 Posted August 29, 2006 Yes, you are right, Steve, and many people who still have a "problem" with this word. What they need is a good, healthy dose of Chris Weeks. That should get them worrying about more serious matters...
Guest leica_mage Posted August 29, 2006 Share #96 Posted August 29, 2006 Ha ha! Just click on that link old chap He pauses, LCT... I can't believe that a music lover such as yourself missed the pause... He pauses.
lct Posted August 29, 2006 Share #97 Posted August 29, 2006 ...I can't believe that a music lover such as yourself missed the pause... A pause is a semibreve = 4 crotchet rests my friend, so no pause here i'm afraid...
rvincent Posted August 29, 2006 Share #98 Posted August 29, 2006 Clark Gable doesn't give a damn about the M8? - Robert
Guest leica_mage Posted August 30, 2006 Share #99 Posted August 30, 2006 A pause is a semibreve = 4 crotchet rests my friend, so no pause here i'm afraid... LCT, a pause does not necessarily always have an absolute value in terms of musical notation, and is therefore not always written as such. It can be as much a matter of phrasing and inflection, and this is the case here. And you'll see in the recording that the pause comes through in terms of pitch. Put it thus: if you drive up a sharp mountain peak and descend down the other side, you may not pause at the peak in terms of actually resting there, but you certainly aren't going to be applying the same pressure on the accelerator as you were when you were ascending as you cross the peak and start heading down, when the most likely thing is that you'll brake as well. That difference is a pause in terms of inflection, and it will be reflected in the sound the engine makes. End effect, he pauses.
lct Posted August 30, 2006 Share #100 Posted August 30, 2006 A pause is not an inflection but an interruption IMHO, here a silence that i hardly hear in Gable's voice. Now perhaps the noun 'pause' has not the same meaning in English as in French so i leave it to you my friend.
