ClemFandango Posted July 26, 2024 Share #1  Posted July 26, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) This is a question for those that have used both systems, I currently shoot the X1D, I love the files it produces etc but I find it frustrating that using my M and Nikon lenses on it is a terrible experience based on the poor electronic shutter performance. i shoot a real mix of subjects, from tripod mounted images of guitars (with flash) to the usual blend of landscape and general ‘life’ captures and the odd professional fashion shoot. So, I have the chance to swap my X1D for an M10r and I am curious, will I regret the drop in overall image quality, or, is that a mute point being that most of my work ends up in digital spaces?  i have used M cameras in the past, both the M9 and M240, and I have M glass that I would love to use again. the size difference is also a big one for me, I would love to take my camera on holidays etc but the X1D, although compact is heavy for having on your neck all day and I’m limited to the lens’s I have for it. i also have a nagging feeling about the longevity of the X1D, my 45p lens has already had to have the main chip replaced and I’m on a second body due to many issues with the first.  what are peoples thoughts? Any experienced advice would really help.
Advertisement Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Hi ClemFandango, Take a look here Get M10r or keep my Hasselblad X1Dii. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hteasley Posted July 26, 2024 Share #2  Posted July 26, 2024 I’ve shot both. I have an X1Dii for sale right now, as I’m using an X2D.  Many happy years shooting M cameras, but my eyes aren’t what they used to be, so I got out of the M system.  i think you’ll be happy shooting the M10r, as long as never having autofocus didn’t bother you. It is a lot less camera to lug around.
jakontil Posted July 26, 2024 Share #3 Â Posted July 26, 2024 If practicality is what you are after, u wont regret having M however, since the beginning i always adapted native Xcd lenses to go with my X system due to the unpleasant experience with electronics shutter
Al Brown Posted July 26, 2024 Share #4 Â Posted July 26, 2024 The proper answer is get the x2d AND M10-R. I am following that route. Best freaking combo in the world for what I do.
jankap Posted July 26, 2024 Share #5  Posted July 26, 2024 (edited) If you still have the 240er, make a comparison with the X1xxx. Print pictures in A4 format and try to see a difference. I used a camera last week, that delivers output with 1936 x 1290 pixels and I liked the result. Of course, this only is A4. But one looks at an A4 print at arms length. An A3 print you would keep at 1.5 arms length, so that would make no difference. With a bigger sensor, one can crop the picture in post. That is true.   Edited July 26, 2024 by jankap
Shameetman Posted July 26, 2024 Share #6  Posted July 26, 2024 I was in a similar dilemma. Had used the M9 for many years. Wasdisappointed with files of the m240, so waited for the M10 to come out. When I wanted to pull the trigger on the M10, had the chance to get myself an X1D with lens for the same amount. Felt in love with the Hasselblad and went with that.  Value wise I should’ve gone with the M10, the value of the hasselblad dropped a lot. But I’m happy with my choice, some of my best photos are taken with the Hasselblad. Recently bought the M10-r, and kept the Hasselblad as well. I see a huge difference in image quality, the X1D is clearly the winner. And for the money I would get in return I can barely buy a Leica lens. Happy to have both! It is on par with going from M240 to M10-R.

Image stabilization is something I wish I had, especially when using longer lenses. Â

The image quality is the only thing that I think I would miss from the X1D - although as I said in my original post,  for my case use, other than my own pixel peeping, will i see a genuine difference in what I output? Shameetman Posted July 26, 2024 Share #10 Â Posted July 26, 2024 I see the difference, actually I was hoping the difference to be smaller. Too me shooting the Leica M is fun, but if I could only keep one I think would still go with the Hasselblad.

A big statement to make, i love every bit of the X2D, but dont ask me to pick only one between it and the M10R, but if i have to… oh well may be ok X2D i have the cfv100c, just because i feally love the output for this X series, and never look back after selling my m11
