Riz Posted July 18, 2024 Share #1 Posted July 18, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Guys, Can you suggest which is the best ND filter and Black mist Filter to use with Leica Q3? Also how many stop vND should I buy for Long Exposure Photos? I'm looking for suggestions beyond PolarPro as a brand (Not an option for me to buy due to availability in my country), Else would have bought PolarPro Everyday for Black Mist+CPL combo. LeicaR10 Posted July 21, 2024 Share #7 Posted July 21, 2024 (edited) Advertisement (gone after registration) Riz, You might want to read this ND buying guide article first to determine what works best for your genre of photography. I use Breakthrough Photography ND filters and they ship worldwide. You can email or call them and get the cost for International Shipping. For black mist filters, check out Tiffen black-pro mist filters, 49mm. You can buy these from B&H Photo in NY and they ship as well. r/ Mark Try: https://breakthrough.photography/pages/nd-buying-guide Edited July 21, 2024 by LeicaR10

Some people use them to produce very long exposures when photographimg moving water. I use mine on extremely sunny days to enable longer exposuress with large aperture and low Iso settings. Blackadder978 Posted July 23, 2024 Share #11 Posted July 23, 2024 I have a K&F Nano X 1/4 black mist filter on my Q3, very happy with that, it stays on all the time. I have a Nano K which is cheaper on a Nikon Z lens, which is also perfectly fine, I can recommend both. Never used a ND filter on the Q, long exposures are for the Nikon gear.
wolfewithane Posted July 24, 2024 Share #12 Posted July 24, 2024 I have the Urth 10-stop ND filter. I've been getting 1.5 sec shutter speeds in sunlight. Very happy with it.

jaapv Posted July 24, 2024 Share #16 Posted July 24, 2024 It is hard to imagine any filter creating noise... Noise is created by underexposure only and amplified by the ISO setting. There is nothing optical about it. 2

I agree with you Jaapv, but I was actually watching a video/review of URTH and it was mentioned something about the noise so I asked this in case I'm missing something. Though few videos did mention about vignetting issue and in case of PolarPro filters it claims there will be no vignetting or color degradation issue. They’re very good. The only noise is related to ISO - if I expose the IR filter at 100 ISO, there’s no noise. If I expose at 8000, there’s noise. I’ve only ever used the ND filters to increase the exposure to 10s or so at the most so, by definition, the ISO is usually fairly low and noise free.

Are you happy with it? I'm øke with it.. at times, it seems a little too strong with the diffusion and other times it didn't give the effects I needed may be like a weak polarization and it already gives -1 stop to consider but it's oke, use it all the times don't go with the mist filter with ½ strength unless u really look for that special effects
