JTLeica Posted July 18, 2024 Share #1  Posted July 18, 2024 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello guys, Tried my best to work this all out but there seem to be quite a lot of different versions of the Rigid 50mm Cron. Can you help confirm what these are in terms of their names / codes? There is the one with the goggles - is that the Dual range one? Or something else? There is this one with the longer groves on the focus ring (is this the Ridig V2?) - https://classic.leica-camera.com/en/Leica-Summicron-M-SOSIC-50mm-f2-Silver-11118/11118SH-2115673 There is this one (two links) showing a similar (earlier?) design I guess (is this the Ridig V1? - https://classic.leica-camera.com/en/Leica-Summicron-SOSTA-2-50mm-chrome/33655-3 or https://classic.leica-camera.com/en/Leica-Summicron-SOSTA-2-50mm-chrome/33507-6 A little clarity from you guys would be appreciated Cheers

Yes  vor 14 Minuten schrieb JTLeica: There is this one with the longer groves on the focus ring (is this the Ridig V2?) This is an updated version of the first Summicron rigid. I would call it a Summicron 50mm v2 (as the v1 is the collapsible version). Never heard of a "Rigid v2".  vor 14 Minuten schrieb JTLeica: There is this one (two links) showing a similar (earlier?) design I guess (is this the Ridig V1? Correct, this is the earlier version of the first Summicron rigid. I would still call it a Summicron 50mm v2 though. The optical cells of the earlier and updated first Summicron rigid (as well as of the dual range) are identical (coatings have likely changed over time). Both the Summicron 50 v1 (collapsible) and the v2 (rigid) are 7 lens element optical designs, whereas the v3, v4 and v5 (same as v4, but with built-in hood) are 6 element designs. Anthony MD Posted July 20, 2024 Share #4  Posted July 20, 2024 We know the DR has brass construction but the Rigid is lighter and maybe it’s made of aluminum instead…!

JTLeica Posted July 21, 2024 Author Share #6  Posted July 21, 2024 Thanks for the help here guys. I think what was originally throwing me was the V1/V2 talk along with the silent refresh of the rigid design and I thought they were related. But the v1/v2 is actually for the optional design not just version one or version two of the rigid etc. I am clear now. I should have known this as I know what all the 50 Cron versions are but some reason my brain was not linking that to this issue
