D-Lux 8. Bugs or features?

Hands up, I’m new to photography and the D-Lux 8 is my first camera. I’m enrolled on a camera course that has taken me up to intermediate level and I’m happy using the camera in manual mode, with Auto focus on.

What I would like to do is to lock the exposure then move to the subject, press the shutter and focus. Am I doing something wrong or is there another method I am missing?

(Camera menu - AF set to single, exposure spot & centre weighted)

AE-L & AF-L on:

Thumbwheel button pressed - AF lock icon & AF is locked

Shutter button ½ pressed - holds exposure (no AE lock icon)

AE-L on:

Thumbwheel - no action (as far as I can tell)

Shutter button (½) - holds exposure (no AE icon)

AF-L on:

Thumbwheel - AF lock (AF icon)

Shutter button (½) - holds focus whilst pressed

(pages 106, 107 in the manual)

 

When set to P-A-S the AE-L function appears to work, but obviously missing the manual mode.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Just had a response from Leica and exposure lock isnt available in M mode

Why would you need it if you control the 3 exposure variables?

In M you can still let the Iso run on Auto, I use that actually quiet a bit on my other Leicas

Even in M mode, I would like the camera to override my setting if there is something better!

FWIW, M mode with Auto ISO is not manual mode.

I put Shutter, Aperture and ISO all in “A” mode. When you press the shutter release halfway, if you listen closely, you can hear them all fighting it out deep within the bowels of the camera. 😉

Anyone else having an issue where the camera takes a long time to shut off and retract the lens? It always takes at least 3s and sometimes takes up to 10. Wondering if I'm doing something wrong.

I think I figured out that it's related to the FOTOS connection to my Pixel 7. If I disable it then the camera turns off much more consistently and closer to the 3s mark

My D Lux 8 is a pain. Shutdown takes too long, sometimes over 20 seconds. Why? There is no consistency to this. It is very annoying. Time for update ?
