New SL2 owner and I have a simple strap question...

Would the metal hoops of a simple leather strap (e.g. https://woodgatecamerastraps.com/product/leather-neck-strap/) scratch or damage the strap mounts on the SL2? I have several of these straps on my other cameras (they are fantastic) and have seen images of other people using a similar design on their SL cameras hence I was wondering if anyone had used something like this for a long period and noticed any damage.

Many thanks

That kind of strap lug isn't well-suited to straps with split rings and you might well scratch the top plate or the lugs. There are many other high quality straps with nylon or leather ends that are narrow enough to thread directly through the lugs, which is how the lugs are designed to be used.

I have never had an issue as long as you use the leather protectors that fit over the lugs.

There are many threads on this subject. There are many good straps, including the one that comes with the camera. My personal choice was the "Brogue" by Harry Benz.  Harry made that strap to my measurements for cross body wear. The 'hinge' part of the strap is ingenious and definitely avoids any twisting at the lugs. Harry is in Toronto, Canada but I believe that he ships internationally. Cost is not low but comparable to other custom straps out there. You can contact him at: https://www.harrybenz.com

Yes they will. But you can easily get made a very short extension, in leather to go between the split ring and camera.

You could also get the peak design version.

Have you emailed him and asked if a custom attachment is available. he would probably make you what you want. Lots of these hand crafted companies will work with you.

Thank you all very much for your input.

I have been using the Fuji X-T2 for many years and tried Peak Design and a few other straps. The simple leather strap has been my favourite as it fits with how I use the camera. The inside of the leather means it does not slip and move around and it has no plastic or similar near the area where it connects with the camera so when I quickly grab the camera and wind the strap around my wrist (when not using it across my body) nothing gets in the way. I found the Peak Design mount things  knocked on the camera and got in the way. Obviously the down side of the simple leather strap is there is no adjustment.

I have read through many threads on this subject and done a lot of research before purchasing the camera in general and there were a few Youtube vlogs that I noticed people with the metal ring type straps which prompted my question.

The Harry Benz straps look amazing although a little thicker than the one I have (and a little costlier). Wapiti Straps look very interesting - I will look more closely at them soon. I like the way leather ages and the patina you get from it. I think I will contact the Woodgate Straps to ask if he can make something that will fit.

I recently came across the Luigi half cases and straps which look very interesting and may also protect the base of the camera as I am terrible for walking around without a bag and setting it down on things which may scratch and damage the base.

I am also quite new to this forum and very much appreciate all the feedback.

Thanks again

As long as you are able to tie a proper knot, this will meet all your requirements:

That may be an idea although with my lack of knowledge on knots I fear the knot itself would be about the size of the camera itself!

I just use a Q strap and got some bigger stainless rings at the hardware store. Works great as a minimal EDC strap.
