Hi,

I just got my first Leica M6 and have just received my first roll of developed film. On about 3-4 of the pictures, I notice something strange, almost as if the film was wet while it was being scanned. Therefore, I am writing in this forum to find out whether it is my Leica M6 that is not working properly, or if it is the people who developed my film who did something wrong? :) P.S. This is the first time I am using this shop to develop pictures.

I have attached a picture where the error appears and one where i see something in the top right of the photo. :)

While we're at it, does the camera seem to take flawless pictures or do you see anything unusual? As mentioned, this is the first time I own a Leica camera. :)

And on the side note… i still have the ability to return the Camera, so if you Think that its something wrong with the Camera and it not worth fixing, then let me know :)

Thanks in advance!

Best regards,
Nikolaj

If other images on the film are fine I would check the development and scanning  first. Is the flaw visible on the negative itself?

I didn’t get the negatives back unfortunately, only the scans… as i mentioned about 4 pictures it appears badly and some of Them has a little bit on the right side and the rest are perfectly fine.

In general these defects show liquid smears on the film as might be caused by contamination on rollers of an automated development lab system. I don't see anything consistent with a camera problem, so use a different lab and just enjoy the camera.

I also agree in an lab failure. Camera should be fine.
What kind of film was it? Could it be a cinema-film, like CineStill film or Silbersalz? They look like this if the rem-jet was not removed properly.
To find an answer the negatives would be essential. If it might be rem-jet it could be possible to remove it afterwards. Otherwise the processor had same dirt in it. You can try to clean the neg with a waterbacth with wetting agent or film-cleaner. Depends on the kind of dirt.

But I would avoid a lab where I don't get the negs anyway.

It was shot on portra 400 :)

You need the negatives in your hands and should never let the lab keep them, but this is a processing error by the lab. You should have some compensation for the film and processing costs and for your time and effort, unless you ticked a box saying you give up your rights.

since it seems you are in The Netherlands, I advice you to use Fotoverweij (Nijmegen). You can either send or deliver your rolls. I let them develop and scan. They are quick, pretty cheap and I am happy with the results, esp colour.

cheers,

Paul
