Nice shot. I prefer it in color too. It does separate the subject from the background and the colors are nice.

I completely agree with Louis. +1 for the color version.

I also agreed with Louis on this, although if his face was lightened I might prefer the b&w. Very nice shot.

As presented, the B&W. The beard carries much of the highlight in that version, maintaining the focus on the subject.

In colour, the blue sky in the background overwhelms the beard and face, or at least competes with it to throw the balance of the composition off. There’s a lot competing for attention. My eye keeps being pulled to the top right corner of the frame.

That’s how it appears to me, anyway.
