If that's a serious question, then: nothing. No more than M, R, S, T, U, V-lux, X and (out of sequence) CL and D-lux. One could add Sinar's F and P to the list. They are keeping N, O, P and W available for new models. Ancient lore has it that M stands for 'Meßsucher' and perhaps R for 'reflex'.

Highly unlikely that it’s just random. The R for Reflex isn’t perhaps either. The C was for compact btw.

I’d say that the Q stands for a high quality point and shoot camera for the masses who bypassed the wish to understand the basics of photography. Or, following AUDI, Quite expensive for what it is compared to peers.

If M is for Meßsucher, surely it should be K for 'Kompakt'? Otherwise the M should have been R for Rangefinder.

what an unnecessary comment. Is there humor in there somewhere?

Well it is formulated a bit negatively but yes, Q is indeed meant to be the highest quality image taking compact camera when the technical aspects of photography are not a priority. So, on holiday one may choose to leave the full SL kit at home as it is vast overkill but take the Q and get similar level holiday snaps.

These snide remarks are imho just unnecessary and don't contribute anything of substance to a forum with rules. I'm sure Leica and many Q users wouldn't agree with @otto.f. There are many examples in the gallery of people who deliberately go out with their Q and shoot pictures with technical aspects and tHe bAsIcS oF pHoToGrApHy in mind. Don't know what kind of difference the camera makes?! It's all about the person behind the camera.

Provided that the camera is suited to their needs at the moment. Sometimes I use my phone and need to know nothing about photography. As I said, formulated harshly ( or maybe provocatively) but not aimed at any forum member or even specific person in general. I’m sure that Leica intently made the camera as  simple to use as possible whilst retaining many options for more advanced photographers

The question is what you mean by « knowing nothing about photography ». As Nadar said: there are people who can see and those who are not even able to look at anything ( it is better in French: il y a ceux qui savent voir et d’autres qui ne savent même pas regarder). The tool itself doesn’t matter.
